There seems to be a small but growing consensus that 389 hp and 479 tq under 15-16 lbs of boost is too much for power for Toyota like longevity. My question is compared to what? The Ford Ecoboost can make 400 hp from 3.5 liters and the HO version of Ram's 3.0 Hurricane straight six TT is 540 hp. I can't see why Toyota seems to have screwed the pooch here. How long is that Hurricane going to blow under towing or high loads? yet to be seen. Ford Ecoboost engines generally go @ 100k on original turbos but maybe 50k on cam phasers. Never seen one just blow up...Might be the reason we haven't seen the TRD Performance package emerge yet...

You're saying that most people, the consensus, think the V35 is too stressed?

for Toyota like longevity...like my 2003 3.4 Taco with 259k or my 99 Land Cruiser with 138k or my 95 Land Cruiser with 262k...or SC300 with 167k none tap smoke or burn oil...much less spinning the front main bearing

But your thesis is that the majority of people think the V35 is overstressed?

yes based on all the commentary and the only failure point seems to be the front main bearing...machining debris...bullshit

No, I don’t think the majority of people think it’s over stressed. I’m sure some do but to say consensus is a reach.

I think he means that the V35 is not built to go the distance such as the proven track record of his own mini fleet of Toyota/Lexus vehicles. If the V35 is built to go 100k. Then something must be stressing the motor to ONLY last 100k (comparatively to Ford/Ram) where you're lucky to even get to 100k

I don’t think the engine is, but some of the members on this board are absolutely overstressed…

I think it's built to handle even more power. Unfortunately the building process has been the limiting factor.

People tend to report rumors, speculations, and projections as facts. Why not let the facts and truths speak for themselves instead of throwing another log on the hysteria fire?

And that’s a legit post. It’s has fewer main bearings to spread the load than other engine configurations and designs.

I wondered what the difference was. This whole issue is very confounding. I hope their tooling was properly calibrated....:anonymous:

The new Nissan twin turbo v6 in the qx 80 will top 500 ft-lbs and have 450 hp.

I wonder when oems will have to start using tilt pad bearings.

That being said, the Nissan VR series (Godzilla GT-R) has the same number and makes gobs of power without eating itself.

The truth will come out eventually, if it’s thru Toyota or someone that does not like their explanation (whistle blower).
Right now everyone has heard what they have said to date and no one should question that until found out otherwise!! We have no reason or foundation to think otherwise because no one has stepped forward with any other first hand knowledge!

And I’ll close with my usual!,,, I hope they do something before someone gets seriously hurt!!

I keep a half dozen main bearings tucked away in my non-hybrid rear seat storage. Problem solved.

Used to be. Quit the industry. Went to another industry. My certs were for black belt and done via company resources ( which is fairly typical) This is different for being a cssbb ( certified six sigma black belt).

Same engine in the LX 600 is tuned for more HP if memory serves correct. **edit** yes, 409HP.

Hadn't heard of any issues with those vehicles, but I'm sure they have low production numbers.

Post was partly in jest, wish it was an Inline 6 configuration instead of a V. Second coming of the JZ series. And inlines are so smooth.

IIRC, didn't they have problems with the GT-R early on 'cuz they launch so hard they were twisting drive shafts? Freaking monsters!

Agreed, should have gone the direction of Stellantis, even though I’m not a fan of most anything Chrysler related. It’s not like they didn’t have room, the hood’s long enough to cover a straight 8.
