What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

For the sake of consistency I go to the same dyno for every run. Same operator too. They're just busy with tuning projects and the like and that's when they could schedule me. If they have an earlier time open up they call me.

 

Not sure if it's ever been discussed, but does anyone run a type of brake master cylinder brace? Ive heard positive things from the Honda scene years back. Firmer brake pedal feel and response. Pic for reference.

 

Do our firewalls flex that much?

 

Its the MC that flexes. the brace prevents the Flex

 

I've got the braided Goodridge lines on my truck. They work well.

 

how does a chunk of aluminum flex? I can sorta see a firewall flexing against manual brakes, and the booster diagram shows some internal structure, so thats probably stout enough. I'm not hating, just curious (i'm very gentle on my brakes).

 

Bro, did you take a couple 4-11/16 blank covers and mod a bracket out of them? I love it!

 

Curious whether anyone here has mounted their socket in the bumper, either on the left face somewhere, or next to the license plate?

My Tacoma and Tundra have them mounted like Mr Bee's, but I know from multiple experiences that this location is vulnerable. I've had them bent from backing into parking spots with plowed snow just below bumper level, and multiple times offroading on steep approach/decent angles they'll get smashed.



Edit: also just figured out why one of the trailer blinkers doesn't work when I hook up the Tacoma

 

its a metal plate from the bottom of a bench grinder that donated it bearings to another bench grinder.

the original plan was red iron c-channel. But i wanted something with more flex (i'll fold the bottom edge up level with the bottom of the reciever).

 

Is the reason because the recep is smashed?

I want to relocate mine...eventually, but I finally have everything working (yes, 100% this time, no BS). I ain't touchin' it!

Nope, it's the firewall.

 

I figured it was a matter of the socket itself when I first realized a blinker didn't work, but this is the more likely culprit. That receptor/socket has been smashed for a few years and still functional, though annoying.

 

Loving my 2" rear drop for looks and handling, but the braking was horrible. The rears weren't helping.

I made a crude bracket to lower the LSPV 2" and all is well again. I'll do it better later.

 

And oddly enough that wasn't the problem...that wire was never connected. It was this green wire. It's hidden behind other wires, but you can kind of see that it's cut.

In case anyone else has their insurance premium skyrocket for no reason like mine did, try the Tesla app. It has an option for Ins on all cars. Got full coverage for less than I was being offered for liability!

Should have known based on the crusties that this o-ring joint between the front crossover and the thermostat housing was going to be a fight. It was, and I cracked the crossover casting seen below.


Picked up a replacement at the salvage yard for $20 that is in way better condition overall.

Water pump leak


Crank trigger/belt guide wear.
I have never seen this.

You can Imagine what the belt looks like based on that wear pattern.

I guess it didn't like the belt particle/oil leak paste that was covering everything under the lower timing cover


I have a new crank trigger plate and gaskets for the crossover coming to the local dealer, should be there tomorrow. That gives me some more cleanup time and if I run out of things to do ill go ahead and do the valve cover gaskets.

 

Dang. This is why it's great to do this yourself, or make sure you really trust your mechanic. I've got a great mechanic who's far more anal than me, insists on using OEM or equivalent parts, and is meticulous. I'm happy to leave this job to him, knowing the next time someone's in there (and it may be him), they won't find any surprises.

 

Nice, with the kind of driving I do, I just couldn't justify the extra expense for the 2.5s, especially since I had to do the carrier bearings and u-joints. Looking forward to seeing pictures.
