The mind is your strongest muscle. Be okay with what your going through. Allow yourself the time to heal, and talk openly about it with people you trust, people who will support you. If you ever need an ear, I'll lend it. When I lost my mom it took me a long time to recover and I had a lot of hate and frustration that I projected to those around me. Nothing they did. And looking back it was because I wasn't giving myself the opportunity to heal. When I started talking about it I began to recover and that hate and frustration quickly faded.

I'll add...Cortisol management (stress hormone) is the key.

I walk a few miles a week to combat daily life & such. no radio/headphones. just walk.

I do my best thinking on a good walk.

    Walking is a health drug.

    anywho...take care. calm your brain.

People have always made fun of me when I tell them I meditate. Like it's woo-woo, and they know me and I'm not that type. But I meditate often. And the key to a helpful meditation is to not think, and just focus your mind on your breath and finding the calm within you. It's quite refreshing.

    This.

Sometimes I'll be sitting in the garage after a workout doing NOTHING.

the best is, like you say, laying on the ground after a workout with my feet on a bench.
all that blood from your legs being raised relieves the heart. it's magic.

after 5 minutes or so, my mind clears and I'm in that meditation state of mind. feels like one of those college naps.

I can't imagine working out in a garage in that humid TX heat. You must sweat your ass off. And yes, taking even five for your mind is amazing. Sounds like you're killing it. Great minds think alike.

not to belabor this working out topic, but...

I do so much better in a HOT environment. it keeps my muscles and associated crap warm.

we use about 5 fans...one being one of those "swamp" fans with the water over paper element.

today will be 94 in the garage. Dynamic/Speed bench day.

my Garage is one of the few places on Earth I think is perfect.

That bites. You know best what your own personal stress relievers are. Trust that, and keep moving forward.

If you're open to suggestions, I'd suggest taking the family out to make some memories. Give your kids your focus and it'll help keep things in perspective.

I'm starting to believe that's a real thing. I've never been sick sick before until I started these jobs at the VA. Govt work fucking sucks. I was sick for 2 weeks in Jan, then again in May. I've never been sick like that. My foreman under me said stress will do that. I still don't know what to think of that.

I keep all my settings set where I don't allow iPhone or any apps to track my locations and don't use maps on my phone. I know even with this, they are watching. But I'm not a drug dealer or bomb maker, so if they want to track me galavanting around having fun so be it. If they track my internet use they'll see I like to buy adulting toys, truck mods and likely spend too much time on a truck focused Internet forum.

Let'em watch and let'em be jealous. I could care less what they think of my activities. I'm not Eric Snowden. I'm just a washed up ski bum and river rat.

Odd, I quit getting sick as often when I started at the VA. I attributed it to an immune system that was being boosted by exposure to all of the crap that comes with being in a hospital. I hope your stress level goes down and your immune system goes up.

I've been here since 7/1 last year. I'm running 4 jobs now, finished 1, with 4 more on the way. I'm not technically in the VA, but I'm all around it. This is the most frustrating job I have ran in my 20 years of doing this work.

I was at the Medical Center for 9 years. That where I learned that, to paraphrase Longfellow and an unknown Greek poet, "The wheels of bureaucracy grind slow, but exceedingly dumb." Good luck.
