Howdy, I have a super dumb question that I feel like I know the answer to but want to ask anyway: if my 3rd gen decides to crap out bc of the bearing failure, will my exhaust void the warranty? My thought is this - it’s documented that this is a known issue with the engine itself, so it’d be tough for Toyota to say the exhaust caused the failure. Still wondering if they’d refuse to fix it. I still have the OEM exhaust but would rather not have to swap it back on to bring it in, in the event that the engine blows. Anyone with an aftermarket exhaust have to warranty their engine?

edit: probably worth noting that I have ~45k miles with no issues so far… so maybe less likely to happen if it’s gotten this far. Seems like this failure happens early in the truck’s life.

No, if it is still under warranty they have to fix it. Of course if your after market exhaust takes a dump, then that's on you.

An unscrupulous dealer might try but I thought the burden of proof was on Toyota. Might ask your dealer and see what they say.

Sorry to hear that your engine went out. Thank you for your input, though! Exactly what I was looking for.

Ask the supplier how they help if Toyota rejects a warranty claim.

    None....
I'm going to disagree with the others. Yes under the law they would have to prove your mods caused/helped caused the failure. But again dealers are there to F**K you over and take as much money as you will give them. Toyota will pay thousands and thousands less for warranty work than what a customer will pay. The tech will probably make alot less if it's warranty work. The service advisor will also make less. And the owner of said Dealerwill also make less. So there is a chance they will fight a warranty claim. But since tere is a recall you should be ok. No recall I bet it would be a fight.

Wouldn't a good accessory provider help you through the Warranty protest? I'm sure the good ones back up the claims that it does not impact warranty.

Are there any grounds if better flowing exhausts might compromise the oil going through the turbo? Someone swap a ?2ur 5.0? into one with the 12 speed or whatever it is & see if you can get better milage. Doubt it because v8's sound amazing above 5krpm.
