Sorry that happened to you! There are threads about this on the site. Most of the posts I've read noted that aftermarket cats had issues with codes once installed and some had to reinstall OEM cats once they became available. Definitely worth the research so the headache isn't prolonged.

Lots of good info here on the tundras.com site. I think there is a consensus that if you can go OEM you will have less trouble than aftermarket. some people have luck, some don't. I know they were backordered for OEM for quite a while, not sure if this is still the case.

OEM, file a claim with your insurance and pay the deductible.

Check with your agent and if you can or if it makes sense, change to zero ded on comprehensive. In my case, it was only a few dollars different and worth every penny.

^ yes cat shields are something to consider.

Not just cats anymore! Due to inflation and cat shields, now they take the whole vehicle!

Depending on where you're located, OEM may be required. In CA, we aren't allowed to install after-market cats so it has to be OEM. If you install anything other than OEM, the smog shops will fail you. Companies won't even ship non OEM cats to CA addresses.

Back in 2020 the driver side cat failed on my 2008 at 180k. I put on a Walker replacement, which at the time cost $317 vs the $2700 Toyota wanted. The Walker bolted up perfectly (make sure you use new gasket rings) and I had the truck another three years and put 40k miles on it with no problems at all and no codes. People kept telling me an aftermarket cat would last two years at best but at that price differential I could have replaced the driver side 8 more times and still break even (taking 16 years minimum if the two year thing held true). Go with a reputable aftermarket brand.
