Long time lurker, first time poster after receiving my truck on 1/20/23. No major issues with only recall work and free maintenance being done at the dealer. However, I'm pretty frustrated by a few things I discovered today and looking to see if others have had a similar experience.

'23 Platinum, 12/22 build date, so it IS within the published date range for 24TA07. Currently at 13968 miles and I just performed its 4th oil change this afternoon. I performed the first two at 1k and 5k, the dealer performed one at 10k on 12/27/23. So to be clear, the oil I drained today was poured into my engine by the dealer during the free ToyotaCare service. Also, I purchased a new, open drain pan this morning because I was curious if I was going to see any "forbidden glitter" when I emptied it.

Well, the first surprise came when I discovered that over 9 quarts of oil had drained:

And this is what was left in the drain pan. Not sure if this is "normal" or not:

The 9+ quarts is what really bothers me. I've done 100+ oil changes over the last 30 years and never have I seen more oil come out than what I put in. It didn't smell or look any different than what I expected. But just to be 100% sure before I accuse my dealer of wrongdoing, I'll be sending in a sample to Blackstone for analysis to rule out any type of contamination or dilution. Wear metal levels will be interesting to see as well of course.

Also, as a side note, it was probably 9.5 quarts since quite a bit spilled on my garage floor. A warning to those who haven't done an oil change after installing a Talons Garage engine skid plate ... the stream of oil does NOT flow cleanly through the access hole when you take the drain plug out! :frusty: I replaced the drain plug with a Fumoto valve so that won't happen again.

Reason #73 why I do my own maintenance.

These motors take over 9 quarts completely dry but a drain and fill only calls for 7.7 quarts. Some genius filled her up good

And these are the same techs that will be disassembling and reinstalling engines for those unlucky souls…..VERY concerning.

^^^ This 100%. I won't allow any place to do it, even if it's free. Dealers don't even have mechanics doing oil changes. They have "Lube techs" which is a step up from the guys washing the cars. Their greatest hits include overfilling the engine, cross threading the drain plug, double gasketing the filter, and my personal favorite of overtightening the filter. I was helping a friend change their oil once who previously had it done at a dealer. The filter was on so tight I had to drive a long screwdriver through it to get enough leverage to turn it loose.

@Ponchis23 Good choice in oil, btw.

I do on vehicles I suspect or know are consuming oil, yes. Having done the first 2 oil changes on the truck I knew this wasn't the case. Also, the oil drained yesterday had only 4k miles on it.

Something I didn't mention in my original post was that I took the truck in for the 18 month maintenance (no oil change) yesterday morning. The inspection report showed a green check mark on oil level. :(

Not surprising, but they all have there inspection videos where they but the clean air side of the filter down on the dirty engine plastics :nuclear:.
Cant make this stuff up, Wifes Rav4 Prime was in for a Dc to Dc converter issue (it's the EV version of an alternator) tech calls up and says the 12 Battery
is going bad and needs to be replaced and "can only be replaced with an OEM Toyota battery. I go thats fine charge up the 12 volt as Im going to drive it home, show up to get the car and every 12V load is on seat heaters, steering wheel etc. this is the kind of stuff that has me terrified to have a dealership do anything more then there "free" new car work done.
