I have what I believe is the OEM tundra hitch (purchased second hand). Noticed there’s a crack on the bottom of the collar. Should
I replace it with another hitch or get this welded by a professional?

Leaning towards replacing for peace of mind but curious to hear thoughts. Replace with another OEM or?

What the hell did they do? Once steel reaches it's yield, welding becomes a band aid and often needs a little more than just a weld. It often becomes necessary to add gussets and such to compensate for material weakness. Curt makes a really heavy duty Tundra hitch, very nice product, she is heavy and around $400.

Do you tow or use use hitch a lot? If yes and for heavy stuff, get a replacement. Any Class IV hitch that is compatible will be fine.

If no, not even sure I'd bother welding it. Just clean it up and put in a filler so it doesn't rust and paint it. Like if you use a hitch mounted bike carrier, I would not worry about that damage.

    Replace.

By the time you have it professionally welded the cost won't be that different..and you may have to remove anyway.

If you do any towing, I would replace it… I would never trust wielding in that spot.

Thats not even a structural part of the hitch. Weld if you want, don’t, won’t matter. The hitch tube appears unaffected. Replace if it bothers you.

Did you buy the Tundra that towed the Space Shuttle?

Yeah, scrap that one and buy a new hitch. You can see it's been beaten hard and put away rusty.

Just weld it. If your weld skills are even marginal, the weld is going to be stronger than the base iron.

...and find out why that trailer is bouncing around and beating the shit out of the hitch. Could be a simple fix like installing a spare tire bracket and spare near the front of the trailer.

Seriously, if my trailer was that abusive while being towed, I'd need to know why.

    That shit drives me nuts!

The collar is already a separate piece welded to the receiver tube to add strength at the opening. If the tube itself isn’t cracked then you can get a new collar and have professionally welded on, then clean up the rust and paint to prevent it from happening again.

here is a link to a replacement collar. Just need something like this

I have several laying around. Depending on where you are located I could give you a smoking deal on one.
