Ok, legit question: What does mexico offer that I cannot find elsewhere?

Open a checking account at a new bank and have $50-100 per paycheck deposited there. Every 18-24 months you will have enough for a trip.

Don’t think about the cash, don’t look at it. Just let it sit.

Mexico is pretty cool, just stay out of the areas where they advertise swinging dead from a bridge overpass, as "an adventure you'll never forget".

 

Business to Japan is different than tourist. I don't want to go without knowing some Japanese, out of respect. Business people are not expected to do the same as they interface with locals who are accustomed to gaijin.

 

Excuses. Nothing but excuses. You learn the basics and use Google Translate for the rest. Everyone I meet is generally nice and patient. The rest works itself out.

 

Funding would be the biggest delay, yes. I just spent any trip money I had on a new Death Sled, so I want to spend my free time using that. Make it worth the money, you know?

I think I like the idea of travel, but I don't have a lot of motivation to pursue it. Hell, I don't even have a passport.

 

It's just a cheap beach vacation with culture, we explored the jungle, went swimming in cenotes, climbed a Mayan pyramid and checked out a lot of ruins.
The food was awesome too, no explosive diarrhea!
We were in Playa del Carmen

One of the coolest experiences of my life was having Orford Castle out my bedroom window, for 2 years. Even as a 10 year old, I knew how special that was.

Sounds like Belize can cover the majority of that... and if I want to see boobs I can't touch I have the internet.

Keep in mind, not only do I not drink but I do not enjoy being in proximity to those who are drinking. I've never looked at cruises for the same reasons that I have not looked at Mexico. Everyone seems to want to go for the all inclusive bar and be shitty drunk while they are abroad.

The first two lines... I don't want to travel and be in a rush. If I go somewhere I want to go for a few weeks so I can take my time and enjoy it. That's always way more expensive than I want to spend.

My younger brother's in laws have a summer house there. He and his wife used it for their honeymoon and a couple of their anniversaries, I think.

If you really want to experience Europe on your own pace, get one of those Euro rail passes that takes you everywhere you could possibly ever want to go, and stay at local B+B's along the way, that's what I did many years ago. Stayed out of all the tourist traps and enjoyed the hell out of just being a guest with some great people who treated me like family, not a tourist.
