The biggest issue with the 3rd Gens in my opinion so far. 1 week of ownership.

Welp I've now owned the truck for 1 week and I got to say love it so far but it has one glaring flaw that I just cannot overlook any longer and I must say something about it.

    I can't hear my turbos...

I finally have 2 big ol snailly bois and I can't hear a whistle or stustustustu at all.

    So disappointing.

    ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

turn off the fake engine noise with carista if you have a trim that has it and then you can hear them spool.

    Boost on :burnrubber:

That's my plan. I let my buddy borrow it to change settings on his RAV4. I might swing by his today and pick it up.

Huh???? What did you say? I can only hear them slightly when windows are down. BUT I'm half deaf anyways from decades of rock & roll, guns, air impact wrenches and race engines.... My wife claims she can hear them with the windows up though... wait... maybe that's just her whining...

That explains why I've been having to put it down to 67 instead of 69nice to get the temp I actually want.
    Appreciate that tip. Any others?

There is a Carista thread here somewhere.
All Windows open on long unlock is one of my favorites.
    Turn off seatbelt chimes too.

No engine noise settings for me at all. Womp womp. That something the better carista adapter does or do I just not have it?

Do you have JBL audio? If not, then you don’t have it. I hear my turbos with my windows up.

    That's 3 words or 1 acronym.
And also maybe. I've only had it a bit and don't wanna fuck with the engine quite yet.

Did the temp dial make a huge difference? I’m considering doing it as the hotter it gets the truck seems to be getting hotter. Have full ceramic tint on all windows and windshield currently and taking it back to the shop to have the panoramic roof done as well and hopefully that will help keep more heat out.

Thanks for the schooling Captain Obvious, I figured CAI acronym would of been a whole lot easier than to spell it out for you.
So much for helping out the new guy with a little learning curve for knowing how to hear your turbos sing.

    Welcome to the boards.

Sorry about that man. I re-read it later and my playful tone didn't come through in text at all.

I'm not opposed to a CAI kit. It's something I looked at. But idk if I want to spend the $500 just to hear my turbo's better.
From another post I saw there are these mesh things under the air filters that to my understanding purely help with noise reduction?

If that's true I might pull those out and see how it sounds. But I need to be sure they don't serve another function.

Yeah no worries man, I get it.
I too was in the same boat as you,I had purchased the K&N kit and received it before my Rig was finished being built, well when my truck arrived I was completely blown away by it and didn't want to risk anything to go wrong with it, so I sat on the kit for 5 months.....

Finally pulled the trigger after 5 months and dropped them in and I could not believe the 180° difference in sound this little V6 TT makes.
But Holy smokes, with the roof open and back window dropped man when they spool up you can hear it but when you let off the gas you can really hear the valves dump the excess air.
I don't think you'll be disappointed, and for me there's no turning back now!

All the best with your new Rig.

Swap out the OEM air filters with a pair of TRD filters and you will hear the turbos! Big difference.

Remove the sound deadening material from the air box. Turbos go whoooooosh.

I prefer the feel of the low end torque especially in tow haul mode it will jerk you into the seat!
But if you have a base model then no tow haul button for you.

Curious how well the ceramic works to keep heat out? I am considering this for my truck but don’t want to spend the $$$$ if it’s not worth it. What are the estimates for it? Windshield, windows, pano top?

Maybe mine isn't a base model then? I have Towhaul and Towhaul+ (whatever that does) as well as a Trailer brake system.

Stillen is about to release their cold air intake for our trucks, the drop in TRD filters do make a little more noise...

Worth every penny! It’s crazy the amount of heat rejection it offers on a hot day. It can cost quite a bit but the difference is night and day. Any car I own in the future will have full ceramic. I’m getting the pano roof done tomorrow so all in I think I’ll be at 1050, 600 for the windows, 250 for windshield, and 250 for pano roof. Quite a bit but so much nicer in the summer not having to ride with the AC going full blast just to keep the cab cool.

A lot of places will have a display set up for you to feel the difference. Recommend checking that out and seeing for yourself. Will let you see how much heat rejection ceramic tint can offer
