So far just the wire harness to connect the tailgate to the power locks and the bed step.
So apparently I didn't pay enough taxes and California wants about $3,000 more. Then my rent went up to $3,200 a month for an average townhome. Then I got my registration bill for the year, $854 for a year. The sunshine tax plus inflation is too much for me.

You know there is a problem when my registration today is the same as the day i bought my truck 15 years ago

back in the day a 15 year old car would be below a hundred

Buy an older vehicle if your registration cost is a big concern. My registration is a quarter of that. It's well documented that new vehicles have high registration costs in California that typically decrease as the vehicle ages, that's something I would personally consider when buying a new vehicle.

    Your voting habits have consequences.

Californians ruined California. If only the rest of the country could make it illegal for you guys to move to other states and spread the special kind of stupid grown in your home state.

California basically charges you a sales tax every year for your vehicle. That is why it decreases every year as your vehicle depreciates in value. I am part of the minority that votes to stop all of the government waste. California is wasting billions of dollars in needless spending.

True. You have to pay to play if you want to drive a newer vehicle. My Tundra CA. registration is $240.
Property tax (thanks to prop 13 in the 70s) is one of the few very reasonable taxes in CA. The worst property taxes (real estate tax rate by %) are in places that wouldn't surprise you like Illinois, New Jersey... but Texas has the sixth highest property tax. California is way down the list at 33rd.

Well the flip side of higher property tax rates in Texas is they have no personal state income taxes in Texas.

It is mostly about how California taxes us to death through taxes, cost of living, and inflation.

One thing with brand new vehicles, is that smog is deferred for I believe six years, but you pay a smog abatement fee up front, I think it is around $25. $25 dollars up front to avoid $125 or so for three smog checks, or whatever you pay.

My father has a 2015 that still has never received a smog notice actually..

Yeah :bored:. Every state has pros/cons, trade offs. I personally wouldn't mind living there. Everybody fixates on taxes but don't look into what they offer, typically a better quality of life (when managed well). Just because you don't personally use some state-funded program doesn't mean it's not a net benefit for everyone. I've lived in OK for 30 years. Sure, cost of living is maybe lower (but rising, just like everywhere), you could probably find a cheaper house (but they are also rising like crazy!), we don't have vehicle inspections here and maybe your taxes are lower. But because of those lower taxes, our roads are a series of pot holes with some asphalt sprinkled in, bridges falling apart, schools had to go to 4 day weeks a couple years ago, the street lamps are left off at night to save money, drinking water is gross, stray animals are rampant, homeless increasing, no social services for the needy, drug usage and related crime up, not a lot of job sector diversity, and anything "nice" (parks, event spaces, stuff to do) usually has to be donated by a few philanthropists. CA isn't perfect, but neither is the other side of the fence. Y'all have a lot going for you. And inflation is definitely here as well.

They screw the rest of the country with their emissions stuff too. It forces the whole industry to accommodate their requirements because no manufacturer is going to build a Cali version and then one for the rest of us.

    California killed the V8.

What a dumbass comment. Typical from someone who doesn't live here and has probably never been here. The politics here suck, but that's thanks to smaller geographical highly populated areas in the state that vote heavily for all the "free" stuff. LA and Bay Area. Go inland\rural and it's the opposite. I make enough money to live comfortably here and raise my family the right way. Can't beat the weather and having the beach, snow, and desert all within an hour drive.

True - but here in Colorado the trend is to simply not register the vehicle - which means they probably don't insure it either! Both suck. Where in the hell did all these leaches come from. They want their voices heard and like to bitch, but don't want to participate in the fix. Enough - I have to get outside and enjoy the day!

Weather has kinda sucked the last few years. I know weather patterns are cyclical, but we’re definitely in the off years.. at least down here I am.

Frankly, the entire West coast is too expensive. I'll refrain from further comment regarding government, but others have told me that while the taxes and cost of living is higher, the wages balance it out. How true that is I cannot personally say.

Surprisingly my registration for my '21 was only $111.88 for TWO years in Arizona last month. And that includes my vanity plate.
