Hello, new-ish member here, looking to buy my first Tundra this weekend. It is a one-owner, 2021 CM, SR5 TRD Sport 4x4 with 45k miles. Judging from the Carfax it looks like this truck was well maintained and taken to the dealership for all its service. (5k-35k maintenance services all done at the local Toyota dealership). Would you guys say that a pre-purchase inspection is 100% necessary for a truck like this? I know it is always a good idea, but with the 2.5 Gen Tundra's reliability, I am wondering if it's overkill. Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

A pre-purchase inspection is never an overkill regardless of the vehicle.

It is a small price considering your investment.

I always get a pre purchase inspection for a used vehicle. What is it, $75 from an independent shop?

I was checking around the local area and one independent shop quoted almost $300.

    Hi Lucas,

I noticed you're in San Diego.

I just checked with my guy and they quoted $85 for a pre-purchase inspection.

I and several of my co-workers have been taking our vehicles to this shop for YEARS and they're straight shooters.

Thank you sir! Unfortunately the truck I am going to buy is in Murrieta, so I'm not sure I would be able to bring it down to SD to get it looked at. But I will be keeping that shop in mind for future work that may need to be done!

The one I used last time was fairly expensive, like $200-300 IIRC.

However he went to the vehicle as I was out of state and did a very thorough job including a test drive.

I don't want to waste money any more than the next guy, but I am more concerned with the comprehensiveness and quality of the job. And convenience always costs extra.
