My 1997 T-100 (father of Tundra), 3.4L V6, 4WD, 262,333 miles with no major issues. Bought it new in 1997. Has 3 pedals on the floor and I've done the clutch twice (most recently 8k miles ago). And one radiator. Still on the original alternator. Still on the original water pump. Still on the original fuel injectors. Still on the original coil packs-on-plugs. Runs faaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaantastic.

June buy. 10000 miles. No major issues. Minor HVAC plenum whistle.
No air leaks, hesitate, bad bearing, broken seat, etc..
Defiantly runs better now than the day I bought it.

 

0 recalls here. 63k. Never been back to the dealer for anything. 63k is nothing but I expect this for a very long time.

Just because there are recalls for your year does not mean they affect your truck.

There are 3 recalls for the 2021 Tundra. One of them is a steering rack issue that affects a grand total of 151 trucks.

 

I suspect trading in every couple of years will slow down across the board with current interest rates. Most people don’t pay the difference in cash and need to realize that carrying a high interest payment forward indefinitely is not a good idea.

 

One year next month.
5250 miles on the road. Mostly highway and towing. No issues and none before or after any recall. Truck is amazing and so nice to drive. I've been driving Toyota's for nearly 40 years - of you can't live with and accept evolution stick to walking without shoes!

 

Did you trade your Tundra in on that Ford?

 

In toyota's sandbox (aka lexus) the flagship & og lexus (LS500) uses the same engine & tranny....that's a $100k whip
I'm happy to have the same power train in my $55k tundra....actually this power train is being used by toyota in numerous vehicles atm.....
So i totally trust their design & longevity

All the gen2/2.5 owners hating on the gen3 folks is kinda ridiculous....

2018 was a refresh actually - whole new dash and first year TSS.

 

I’d love to hear what’s wrong with a 100 or 200 series LC.

 

2017 purchased in October 2016. 99k miles of hard use and only issue has been noisy alternator bearings requiring a replacement around 65k miles.

 

That is my pappys 2014 Ferd. He sold me the nazi scooter after I gifted him my 03 RoadStar.

I'm so lucky.

Mileage/issues?

178k and counting on our LX. Trying to think of everything that has been done to it. I replaced the radiator, water pump, thermostat, fan pulley bracket, and the tensioner and idler pulleys. Preventative maintenance. Probably should tackle the starter and maybe the alternator at 200k. I reeeeeally don’t want to do the starter myself…

I also swapped in Tundra brakes up front. I bought heater Ts but the stock ones are fine. Also serviced the AHC.

Next on the list is a trans drain and fill and new spark plugs whenever I get a free Saturday.

 

'23 SR5 TRD O/R @13500 miles. I have had no major issues and am 'ok' with the truck.

 

My 2002 Tacoma had the water pump go out at like 35 or 40k. That was one of the most supposedly reliable legendary vehicles ever. They fixed it and life went on. Same deal here.

I just bought a 2nd home, November of last year. Affordability is not the issue. I like buying the cream puff, poser, never used as a truck from those that pay the depreciation for me. I also find it funny how much money folks are paying for a pickup truck yet have low expectations.

PS thanks to those that do pay the depreciation and only use them as a car. So many cream puff TRD off roaders to choose from on the used market. Not a scratch on the shiny TRD skid plates are the best ones.

 

This to me is the biggest surprise! Land Rover by TaTa motors not know for quality or reliability.

 

I’d love to see an example of a 2018 - current Tundra that has less than 40k miles that’s priced more than 10% off original MSRP. Not sure about this “depreciation hit” you’re describing - me and many others planned to buy used but ended up buying new because used is almost just as much until your several years old and close to 100k miles.

 

Not sure what the original MSRP was but here is the one I bought with around 32,500 miles on it.

Also we can't evaluate the 3rd Gen until 2028 or after for a direct comparison.

There's a new guy on the forum who just bought a used '21 TRD Sport for $45k. One could argue that the color being army green and the fact that it's a crewmax helped its resale value, but that's $1k less than I paid for my '21 TRD Off Road crewmax in the same color. When I bought mine, there were only two Tundras on the lot. Scarcity had started driving prices north by that point.

I bet that truck's original MSRP was under $40k easily.

 

This shows a fool and his money are soon parted because I didn't research it and only compared it to asking prices of today.

I stand corrected on my depreciation theory.

 

People are allowed to buy what they want, some only want big old v8s which the last generation Tundra fits the bill. Paying that for a used Tundra proves one thing, the person way over paid for a used vehicle and will never see that money back again. The new Tundra is vastly superior to the older generation in every regard. I see them selling with right at 100 thousand miles from $38-$46k, I would attribute this to Toyota resale value overall not the previous generation Tundra being vastly superior or anything.

Man, I love it when y'all accuse the 2nd genners of being irrational fanboys, and then you post stuff like this. Subjective opinions stated as objective fact. This is just flat out hilarious to me. People can make whatever choices they want, and this post tells me that you and I value vastly different things, but IMO the new truck went backwards in several metrics:

• visibility
• maneuverability (turn radius and exterior dimensions got larger)
• smaller space inside
• DIY serviceability
• suspension articulation
• rear axle rating
• mismatched front CV axles (gotta carry two now if you're off-roading)
• narrow SUV frame under the cab that makes sliders less sturdy
• deleting large tactile knobs that one can easily reach without having to take eyes off the road
• and the big one: overall drivetrain complexity
• and the other big one: price

On top of that, the 2nd gen blew everyone away when it was debuted. It landed way out in front of the pack. This one debuted mid-pack in most metrics and at the back of the pack in one that happened to be the one of the biggest complaints of the 2nd gens: payload. Unreal that Toyota listened to 15 years of criticism with the 2nd gen and did not move the needle in any meaningful way here.

I mean, look at common 3rd gen thread topics: "Why is payload so low?", "I thought fuel economy would be better", "What can I do about this bouncy ride", etc. Some things never change I guess.

Will it be more reliable than other new trucks currently offered? That's the big question. How far will your money go? Who knows at this point. Toyota looks closer to the rest of the segment than they ever have. Will it last and last and last and take abuse and keep asking for more like the previous generation? Remains to be seen but bottom end failures aside, history has already shown us that the nature of a forced induction small displacement engine is to need more regular and costly maintenance and repairs than a low-stress V8.

Towing 7-8k, daily driving, off-roading trips, jobs around the property, having 0 recalls, and just putting gas in it and maintaining it myself. These are my needs. And I can do all of that in my current truck. The value add isn't there for me with the new trucks. This is my subjective opinion. Yours differs obviously, but it is still subjective. Glad you have a truck you like.
