Bilstein 6112 Popping Noise

Truck has new Bilstein 6112s set at the lowest setting and since day 1 about 15,000 miles ago there’s always been an annoying popping noise when turning slow in parking lots and or hitting bumps. It’s getting worse and the truck sounds like a piece of crap. Should I spray down the spring mating surfaces with some clp gun oil ? Everything is tight, I just double checked.

 

Are the end links hitting the coils at all? Is this only at full lock in the turns?

 

Usually a popping noise when turning slow is the sway bar links. One way to test is to take the sway bar off and see if it goes away. The other option could be the LCA bolts not being torqued to spec. Just throwing out ideas of things that others have found when they swapped out the suspension.

 

Yes, on the sway bar linkage. I replaced mine not too long ago and I don't hear them anymore - the bushings get cracked and allow for too much movement.

 

It makes the popping noise when going straight also.

Did you torque the lower shock mount bolt with the vehicle weight on the suspension, or was the suspension hanging freely with the wheel off when it was torqued?

 

It was hanging freely when torqued.

 

So no noise this morning, rained last night and everything was wet on the drive in to work…hhmm.

 

Everything suspension wise should be torqued with the truck on the ground. Might not be the issue but worth a shot.

 

If it has done it since being initially installed that may be your problem.
