They can do it. The problem is dealers are very inconsistent about whether it’s something they WILL do.

ETA this is doubly true if you ask them to do things like change, seatbelt chimes, or thermostat temps. It’s far easier to do it yourself even if it does cost 50 to 100 bucks for the OBD scanner. If you buy the Crista scanner, you can get 30 days free on the app.

Thanks. I work for a dealer and if they are able it would not cost me. I’ll check into it.

I’m surprised at your powers of observation. Good catch! Many noise cancelling technologies use microphones to capture noise and then “invert” that noise to cancel it out. I’ve done some manner of audio engineering and, without getting too deep into the weeds, audio signals can be used to change brain waves and patterns. This is why you get disorientated and a headache.
in my opinion, it’s only a matter of time before this technology causes seizures, blackouts or cognitive issues to a driver at speed. Lawsuit waiting to happen.
Why only you and your son? Either you’re sitting in the “sweet spot” where the phasing is it’s worst or you have better hearing than the other passengers. incase y’all think I have lost my mind, this is a well-studied phenomenon that has even been utilized by the Clowns In America to trigger out of body experiences for their remote viewers.

Yeah, I've been doing some shock waves cancellation calculation for industrial use way back in years - basically the same thing. It is not only what to cancel, but where exactly to cancel - in my case to prevent resonance and equipment damage. Never understood how you can do to it properly for every person in a car using the same source of counter-waves to cancel noise coming from multiple sources. This technology sort of works with active noise cancelling headphones, but only because it is a personal, close proximity device sitting between noise source and ears.

I better live with natural engine noises and tires hum. Our finest brain can cancel that on its own.

I 100% agree. It’s just more bull crap they can throw in to the sales brochure.
Reminds me of a recent building i was part of commissioning. It was a cube farm and the building was so quiet that you could hear someone sniff, click a pen or slurp their coffee across the room. (52dBa) so we spent thousands throwing in speakers that would project pink noise to bring the noise floor up to 60dBa. People then thought they had a quieter work environment because no more coffee slurping.
I think given the choices, most tundra owners wouldn’t want the fake engine noise. It’s at most, a gimmick to cover up other noises.

I received the Carista OBD BT device and downloaded the app. The software works really well. The subscription process is a bit confusing. You must sign up for the full year with the first month free included in the subscription. After going through the process of signing up, I found you can cancel anytime, but it at first is kinda confusing. I've made the suggested changes to the engine noise, dropped the ambient temp -2º, turned off the Driver's seatbelt chime and a few other things I'm just trying out to see if I like the change (like boosted the gain on the interior microphone). I'll report back after I've driven the truck a while to see if it helps.

It seems to be a trend buyers want. Not me, I can't stand the fake noise.

I was watching the TFL truck guys on their EV channel. One of them is driving the Hyundai Inonic 5 N which is a track ready EV. They pump in V-8 revving noises and put on a fake RPM display. LOL!

I watched one of the car repair shows on MotorTrend TV where they added external speakers and sound to a new Mustang EV. Interesting. I can see where having some sort of external sound would help warn pedestrians in parking lots, though. I've seen a few folks lost get hit when walking out in front of a few Teslas. But that's another discussion....

But I didn't like it in my truck since to me, it made the natural engine sound too loud and fake sounding.

Wow, I drove the truck yesterday without the engine noise and it was wonderful. I can now hear the real engine at a volume that sounds fine to me. I'm not sure I get the reasoning behind the -2º ambient temp reduction, but I'll drive it some more to see if I like it before changing it back to the factory setting. I do like the seat belt delete! I appreciate that more than I thought I would.

I would like to have a setting that allows the rear camera when backing up to stay on for about 3 seconds after leaving reverse and changing to drive but so far, I don't see that adjustment.

I too was amazed at how much I liked the real engine noise!

As far as the rear camera goes, the only way I found to keep the camera active and more useful to me is to change the setting on the screen to "auto" while backing up (look for the icon to the right on the screen while in reverse). Auto will keep the camera active and change it to front/pano when you put it in drive. The downside to this is that it will automatically turn on the cameras when speed is less than 10mph, so every stop sign/traffic light it changes, but I like that it automatically changes when I am parking or approaching a drive through. Trying it this way for now. Could always just hit the camera button when needed.

Just another option to consider. My previous vehicle would only change right after being in reverse, so not at every stop which I liked better.

Just got my Carista and made the changes, including deleting the fake engine noise.

Contrarian view here, but so far I think I like the fake engine noise better than the hybrid whine/clicks and such that were previously masked. I'll run around a bit without it and see if I like it after all.

I'm in Corona, CA if anyone is interested in meeting up to have their settings changed DM me.

I can see where it might be helpful or “better” in that scenario. In my non-hybrid, not so much.

    Good morning Art,
Would your Carista that you have work on my 2.5gen? It should, right? I'd just have to download the app on my phone and enter my info? I've been wanting to get one simply just to change my blinker from 3 to 5 and not really sure what else I would want to do.
I'm local to you and I'd be interested in trying it out if possible.
