I drove the Tundra to the outer Banks recently and went off roading on the Corolla beach in NC.

On my way there I discovered an interesting finding that the Tundra achieved an impressive 27.7 MPG when going from Nags Head NC to the off-road beach access in Corolla, totaling around 33 miles.

The Tundra was on cruise control almost the entirety of the trip and the posted speed limit is 35 / 45. The outer Banks was mostly flat and in addition, the drivers in front of me observed the speed limit extremely well and maintained constant speed, which may be why the truck was able to run so efficiently.

What is the highest MPG you have reached and under what conditions?

Something in the 40-50mph range should yield the highest possible MPG. Gets the transmission into the taller OD gear, but you haven't started to encounter the increase in wind resistance over 60mph yet. Flat helps.

I have hit 25+ mpg under ideal conditions. Flat, warm temps, no wind, 2 lane highway with few stops but just enough traffic to limit speeds to 50-55. I used to hit low 30s mpg on my previous Eco diesel on same route so the Tundra perfect conditions mpg don't really make me go wow. But a lot more power and the services with periodic fuel filter is not $300 either

a lot more power for which? Tundra out performs the EcoD in power. Add hybrid and it’s no contest.

    EcoDiesel = 260hp and 480tq
    3.4TT yota = 389hp and 479tq (non-hybrid)

Right now my truck is a secondary vehicle since I have a company car. I use it mainly to haul smaller stuff and almost all my miles are interstate. I drive around 70-75mph. and with no trailer I get an impressive 20-20.5. When I haul stuff I get a nice 16-17.

I have the TRD Offroad package, but I did swap rims and tires to get me street tires though, so that might be helping me.

Great job OP. Unfortunately most don't buy them to sip fuel and all trucks will get their best mpg at lower speed because of less wind drag. With anything turbo powered, Eco or Boost your choice.

I'm averaging 20.5 mpg in a 2020 Chevy Silverado 2.7L 4cylinder turbo, company provided 1 wheel drive crew cab. Somewhere in the 15s for my dinosaur Tundra 4x4

I’m Don’t think getting 27 MPG going 35 to 40 miles an hour is anything weird. Seems pretty normal

Got 16.5 on 215 mile trip driving speed limit 75 and sometimes over. On same trip back, followed a Semi going mid 60's average, and got 23.5 mpg taking it easy. Was impressed but either style driving is still an upgrade in mpg over what my previous 2016 Platinum Tundra could get.

I can pull 17.5mpg at 72mph on relatively flat interstate in my 2019. Almost 18.5mpg at 60-65mph.

I hear that from 18-21 owners, I assure you my flex 2016 could not///even hyper-mile granny style netted me 16.3 or .4 doing 55ish for a 100 miles.

I have 18 stock wheels and tires. The stock is probably a good balance between MPG and other factors such as braking distance etc, and Toyota factory must have made the best decisions in terms of MPG without compromising other factors too much.

But I think you're absolutely right. And the tire pressure also definitely played a role. When I made the trip, the tire pressure was at 37 PSI (35 rated, 40 max)

    Sure they're not 18's ? Think Tacoma stock OEM's are 17.

I get 25mpg all day long at a tick under 60mph on flat land steady state driving. Aggressive starts or hills and wind will cause it to drop 22-23ish under same conditions. Base model 2wd with all terrain tires.

    Nitrogen filled tires!
averaged over 27 mpg for a full tank last summer on a Yellowstone trip. Filled up in Cody and went in the East entrance - around the park and out through the South entrance - filled up again in Casper and had two gallons left in the 22 gallon tank. Mind you the speed limits were 35 - 55 for most of the trip except the legs coming back to Casper where they were 65. Average a little over 20mpg here at home with combined local street/highway driving.

I have a Walmarts about 22 miles from deer camp. During second week of November deer are rutting. I will be on vacation all week that week. I drove slow going Walmarts and back. Deer are running across road all time. So spend most of my time around 45-50 mph. That is only time of year I see 27 mpg every year. it is a 165 mile round trip to camp and back home. About 135 of it is highway speeds. I see tank averages around 23.5 . Rest of year tank averages is around 22.

For what it is worth. Sometimes after I fill up and trip odometer resets. I pull out and the truck is in hybrid mode for little over quarter mile. It shows 60 miles to gallon. But, starts back down after gas kicks in.

    That's impressive. What is
the best average per tank you have gotten? Mine has been over 27mpg for a 20 fill-up on a 22 gallon tank capacity - not a 12 mile trip as you report.

I was worried with all this threads complaining about gas milage. Got my 24 limited non hybrid yesterday. Drove it home yesterday. Mostly highway miles, 2/3 were pretty flat. Also went for a ride with the fam up a canyon.

I have maybe 130 miles on it and I'm averaging a shade under 20mpg. I was taking it easy on the highway, low 70s mph.

This is the best round trip MPG gotten so far with our 2022 SR5 2WD Tundra with original Yokohama GeoLandar 18" street tires, front and rear at 40PSI. Use cruise control set no higher than speed limit on road traveled, with 99% of travel on 4 lanes, interstates, toll roads, and Ohio turnpike during this trip. Our Tundra with 70MPH set on cruise actually goes 68MPH indicated on the Garmin GPS, this probably means the indicated miles driven on the odometer is reduced by 3%. This Tundra just passed 30,000 miles on this trip.

Round trip finished 5/20 from North Carolina to Michigan traveling through West Virginia and Ohio for a total of 1407 miles indicated with three fill ups totaling 55 gallons.

Always start trips with topped off tank and also top off tank at end of trip when measuring MPG. At the end of this Michigan trip the Tundra's computer stated 24.8 MPG, but when dividing indicated miles driven by gallons used equaled 25.5 MPG. If I take it further and reduce indicated 1407 miles by 3% (speedometer/odometer error) equals 1364 miles divided by 55 gallons equals 24.8 MPG, same number indicated by Tundra's computer.

Yep, normally tow a 4900 pound travel trailer around the US with the Tundra, impressed with non-towing Tundra MPG after some round trips.

How the hell do you guys get mileage like this? I can't crack 18 mpg, and that's with a hybrid.

Maybe CA piss gas has something to do with it? (And maybe my 80 mph on the freeways)
