I may be getting ahead of myself since I have not received my truck yet, but planning is half the fun. I have placed a deposit on a 2024 Limited CrewMax, non-hybrid, with the 12 speaker JBL option (don’t want to hear that I should not have that JPL option, too late). This is in the windchill pearl with the 6.5 bed, not that that matters.

It has been a long time since I have put a sound system in a vehicle, since 2013. Man there are a lot of new options out there as well as the steep prices to go with them. Not looking for a plug n play setup up like the Taco Tunes or the Beast-Sonic kit but also not looking to shell out the $$$ like the 2022 Capstone Tundra audio project or the 1794 audio upgrade by Audio Art as read and referenced in these forums.

I have not decided on speakers, besides the sub, but my goal is to utilize all 12 locations with new speakers, though not necessary again as mentioned in the forums. I plan on re-purposing the JL Audio 12TW3-D4 sub and the Alpine PDX-V9 amp from my Tacoma.

So what I understand so far is that there is a 10-pin connector (90980-12C39) at the rear of the “radio head unit” that 4 channels of audio that is sent to the factory amplifier/DSP underneath the seat. My plan was to use these outputs as an input to a Alpine PXE-0850X 12-Channel Advanced Wireless Digital Sound Processor, bypassing the factory amplifier. This thing has so many cool features that I admit, I do not yet understand how to implement all of them, but there are a few YouTube videos out there so I’m sure I’ll eventually manage if this is the right equipment, which is yet to be determined.

The re-purposed PDX-V9 would get its inputs from the DSP and would be used for the front and rear components and the sub, as in my original setup, and the three front stage 3” speakers would be fed from three of the powered outputs from the DSP. All speakers would have new wiring run from either the amplifier or the DSP.

I just wanted a sanity check to make sure I am understanding the audio configurations on these Tundras before I start settling in on the speaker hardware. I would have thought that there would be more out there by no since they have been around for a couple of years now, but I have not stumbled on and detailed builds yet.

If I have missed a pertinent thread please direct me. Thanks in advance.

    Welcome to the club!
You might be surprized how good it sounds, yes I'm old but have my fair share of cars and even two full components systems. I listen to a very wide spectrum of music. Biggest thing is having switch to the paid Amazon music the quality is awsome vs say XM and that's the lowest band width crap so night and day.
Let us know what you think when you get the new ride.
I'll go from tesla the band then Lorna shore then to bassnectar by the way and I roll all the windows down on a nice day and enjoy.

Checking to see if you went through with the upgrade. I have a 2024 1794 hybrid with the JBL “upgrade” and it is weak sauce compared to the Kicker system I had in my 2016 F-150 King Ranch.

Well, I haven't done much yet. Life keeps getting in the way of progress. I can't share any success stories until complete but I can share the journey.

Picked up my Limited at the beginning of February. So far I have built a speaker box for the JL Audio 12TW3-D4 sub that I pulled out my Tacoma. I was hoping that I could just drop the box I had in the Tacoma into the Tundra. The fact is that there is not as much space behind the seats in the Tundra. The sub barely fit, if I can really say that, the ring touches the back of the seat when closed. Another disclosure that I was not happy about is that I had to use half inch MDF instead of the standard 3/4 inch due to the spacing. I didn't want to give up my under seat storage which is why I didn't go with the hybrid. I also decided against al the fancy/expensive DSP units to get the center channel dash speaker operational. The plan is to use Audio Control LC7i for the front speakers and LC2i Pro for the rear door speakers. I'll use the LC7i to combine the front three channels into one (tweeter, door driver and dash speaker) before routing to the amp. Similar for the LC2i Pro for the rears.

My goal is to minimize the cutting of factory wiring, so I had my buddy in Japan or this harness that is supposed to connect the the factory harness and the factory JBL amplifier under the seat. I have not verified that it fits but it is supposed to allow access to take the speaker level inputs from the amp and feed them into the Audio Control units. The audio control units are then connected to the amplifier, in my case using an alpine PDX-V9. The output of the amplifier will feed to the wires of the other connector of the harness from Japan, which would allow me to attempt to use all of the factory speaker wiring. I don't yet see how I can run new wiring through the doors.

So, still a few things to figure out and I'm sure hurdles to get over. Here is a pic of the mentioned enclosure with space on the passenger side for the amp and line converters. More to come...

Would love to hear an update. I'm planning on doing the same. Jbl sounds decent at medium levels but doesn't get loud enough. Plus needs way more bass..
