Living on Long Island the only off roading I do is on the beach. I’m looking for a suitable off road jack as the oem bottle jack is hardly good enough for pavement. My ‘21 TRD Pro is stock with toe hooks in front and a hitch in the rear. Would a Hi Lift Jack work for me on a jack board in the sand? I’ve never used one before. I don’t want to hump around a heavy floor jack.

It's been a minute since I lugged a hi lift, but I don't know the Badlands jack is that much heavier. The hi lift also being a hand winch is probably the biggest advantage.

A 48” Hi Lift could be had around here for 50-75.00 used. Much rather buy quality used than HF junk.

I hear you, although I'm not sure the Badlands jack is junk. Jury Is still out, though.

I don’t know about the Badlands, actually I was referring to the HF Hi Lift knockoff.

Make sure you have somewhere safe to lift with a Hi-lift. They're awesome tools, but dangerous. Typically need sliders and/or steel bumpers to safety lift with them. A piece of plywood and a bottle jack will work just as good as a floorjack with a skid plate IMO. Shovels are even more important.

Check out Corolla Beach Idiots page on Facebook. It’s a beach in NC where people always get stuck and then the idiocy is posted.

A hi lift will work with a jack board. Very versatile, also very easy to hurt yourself or damage your ride. They make an off road plate/foot specifically for high lifts.
If you go with hi lift, get familiar with it before you need it. We used to have them in all our work vehicles, a few people were hurt and we threw them all away.

There is such a thing as steel plate. Get about 1' square or circle cut from plate or web of beam. If you walk into a recycling yard, you might be able to buy used. Just put the plate under the bottle jack and be GTG. If you want to save weight and not deal with rust, get aluminum. Done.

There is also an airbag jack that uses exhaust pressure to inflate the jack and lift your truck.

If your truck is stock, the only place a hi lift would work is in the hitch, or if you use wheel hooks. If you use wheel hooks, then obviously, you can't change that tire.

Great vids. Can’t believe the fool who took the Enterprise rental truck out onto the beach!
I’ve read about alot of folks getting hurt with them. Since my only real accessible point of using it is below the rear hitch maybe something more versatile. No wheel hooks d33pt.
I’ve heard of them but never seen them in action. Certainly the lazy mans way to lift the truck, and from anywhere. Sitting on soft sand almost eliminates cutting the bag on anything other the truck, so that’s good. That may be the ticket?
In all my years of fishing the beaches here I’ve never got stuck, but this will be my first season out with this truck, so I’m just getting prepped. I always air down, and just picked up a compressor, so I should be good to go. Thanks guys.

Funniest thing about this is you really only need 4wd in a few places on that beach but a lot of people are just morons and don’t read the signs warning that 4wd is required so they go on out there in a loaded down car or minivan and wonder what happened. Then there’s the ones that don’t understand to stop and let air down and as soon as they start spinning they floor it only to quickly be bottomed out. Again wondering what happened. They wouldn’t even make it over the dune if they went down more towards hatteras where there is sugar sand

Not completely true. You can lift with wheel hooks, lower on blocks, change tire, then lift again to remove the blocks. Just need a few blocks to sit it down on.

Yeah, with the exhaust jack, I would place a floor mat from the cab under and on top of the inflatable airbag prior to jacking to minimize puncture risks.

That's true, but a lot of work. And you'd need to have enough blocks with you to do that.

Traction boards or strap on traction blocks might be something to look into if your concerned about getting stuck.

That’s what it would be used for although I’ve never got stuck.

Kinetic ropes are great if you have someone else to tug.

My HF jack has been working for well over a decade now. without a hitch, I use it almost every weekend. I am planning on getting the badlands, just for the Tundra, based purely off my previous experience with that HF jack.
