I know people love upgrades, and I'm one of them. But for now I just want things right. They don't need to be improved over stock, just improved over "worn out".

Really hard to find info on when to replace the front coils. I'm looking to get the basic Bilstein 4600's all around. Adding coils would be another $400. I replaced the coils on my Tacoma at around 300,000. I'll admit it was well past time, but it did fine with the old ones.

The Tundra is at 225,000 miles. Mostly pavement. In terms of "worn out", not in terms of "I wanted an upgrade", when would you consider front coils to be on borrowed time? Does the typical shock "bounce test" work to diagnose coils?

    Any advice is appreciated.

    Thanks.

Bounce test won’t help. Decrease in ride height is the biggest factor I would say. Or a visually cracked coil. Otherwise? They are probably fine. Mine have 270k+ on them. Seem fine.

    Function before sparkle.
The bounce test helps diagnose a shock issue. Sagging and unusual tire wear are the biggest indicators of spring coil end of life. If you're not having any of those issues you are likely fine.

Visually inspect them for cracks or rubbing against things. If there is nothing, your springs are probably fine.
