    Hi All,

My name is Matt and I have a problem. It is called GM products... I think this is how it's supposed to go right?

I have been bitten in the ass by two GM 1500's in the last 7 years. I have been a life long GM owner for personal vehicles. My work trucks have always been fords.

In 2000 I had an F150 which lasted over 250,000 miles before I sold it and replaced it with a 2008 F250 with the dreaded 6.4 diesel engine. That truck lasted for 220,000 miles until last week when my mechanic said needed new turbo, head gasket, ERG coolers for $10k. The truck isn't worth $8k in good condition, so I made the decision to replace it. Was driving my personal truck with is a 1500 Sierra AT4 from 2020 in to town to look at a Tacoma to just run around in for work when for the 6 time in the last year, my check engine light came on.

On the personal truck side, I have a 2008 GMC 2500 which was totaled by a drunk. I loved that truck, but had to move on from it. In 2017, I bought a 1500 gas. It lasted 3 years before the 2nd transmission went out in under 90,000 miles. I tried to get GMC to buy it back and had no luck. We ended up trading it in and getting the 2020. Fast forward to 2023 and with the 6 check engine lights for Nox sensors and exhaust computer module failures, a new cat converter, a failure of the power steering computer module, and failure twice now of the side sensor computer modules, I am freaking done... I put so much into this truck which I will never get back as we still owe way too much.

Anyway, that brings me here. I am a forester and I drive on logging roads and haul around an atv. I put 30,000 miles on in a year. I will be putting a four wheel camper project M on what ever I purchase. The truck is going to have to serve as a personal and work truck for at least a year while I build up funds to go back and buy a small beater woods truck so that I can keep the new truck miles and damage to a min. When I am not on dirt roads, I am on very windy coastal roads which are hard on things as well. Go through break pads like crazy due to steep grades.

So I am currently considering a Tundra and an F150....... Help me make better decisions!

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! Any Tundra 4x4 will do you just fine, though the '22 and '23 model years had some bugs to work out due to the new platform. But I've heard very few complaints about the '24's, other than plastic trim parts. With your towing, if you go with a '19-'21, spend about $1000 to get a transmission cooler like the pre-'19's have. No rash of problems has been reported, but if done correctly, the additional cooler will only help. This is not needed if you don't tow very much.
