My front brake caliper is on the front side of my rotor. Is this normal?

Hello all, first post after lots and lots of reading. Huge thank you to everyone that contributed here as you have saved me numerous times on different jobs. I have a 2000 Tundra SR5 V8 4.7L 2WD.

I am preparing to replace the rotors and brake pads as the rotors are warped and I’m getting a sluggish, pulsing movement when braking at slow speeds accompanied with the steering wheel vibrations. I’ve watched several how-to videos and read a few threads on here, but after looking at my calipers and rotors to ensure I got the right size, I noticed that my caliper is attached to the front side (closer to the front of the vehicle) of the rotor as opposed to the back side(closer to the driver door) that I have seen in every video and thread. Is this normal? Is it possible the previous owner mixed them up?

I have attached an image to help explain. Apologies if this is completely normal and I’ve just never seen it.

Just a guess, but maybe because it’s 2wd?

If I recall, both of mine are closer to the bumper on my ‘06 w/4WD

The important part is where the bleeder is, high or low

All is normal on your truck. Both the 2wd and 4wd brakes are located exact like the ones in your picture. The 2wd and 4wd use the exact same spindle/knuckle, and that’s what the brake caliper gets bolted to. What may be different are how the brake pad retaining wires are shaped.

It does look like a different caliper to me, maybe aftermarket?

Calipers are in the front on my truck. And as another mentioned, your bleeder valve on your brake caliper must be on the top end of the caliper. Made that mistake years ago and had it on the bottom (you can't bleed it if it's on the bottom).
