Anyone have any ideas as to why I can add almost 2.5 to 3.00 gallons of fuel to my 2023 Tundra after the pump clicks off ? Is it safe to top it off ? Can it be damaging to do so ?

    Any thoughts would be appreciated,

Topping off your gas tank is a bad idea. Overfilling saturates your vehicle's vapor recovery system which can lead to permanent damage and avoidable repairs.

I usually do one more click after...I dont shove more in there after that. My father in law ruined a charcoal canister (EVAP Stuff) doing what youre doing. He'd shove as much gas as he could into his Avalon until one day he got an evap code...$800 canister later, he stopped doing that. Theres no need for it, dont do it

Thank you, I appreciate the explanation. I will no longer be topping it off.

I always use to lower lock position on the the fuel handle to add fuel a little slower. All pumps are not created equal so maybe another station may be different too.

i put the pump on med click and stop once it pops off. if i need more gas i will fill again.

i only track gas consumption as a gee whiz fun project. we dont care how much it costs cause really, we will get the gas whether its $5 a ga or $3 gal and we can afford it. otherwise we wouldnt have bought the tundra.

Tank on the right, fill on the left. Theres a long hose across the truck that could hold a gallon or two on top of completely filling the tank. That’s your extra gallons.

Years back I read or saw a video on why this is bad, which has already been pointed out above, and haven't done it since.

1st click, done and move on.

What do folks think squeezing a little bit more gas accomplishes? Not worth the risk. Yet to this day I hear other folks fill and click many times.
