Just installed a new (to me) RTT. I love it! But, one crazy thing has happened... I am getting 1.5 more mpg after Installing it I have driven around 350 to 400 miles since installing it and the same route I have driven countless times before. So I have verified. I get 18.5 now in mostly open road but some city. I was expecting to lose mileage. So, to make a totally nonsensical statement: I added an RTT and improved my MPG. I broke physics.20240406_160743.jpg 20240406_110930.jpg

How many miles are on your truck? Though the aero change could have an impact for the positive I would guess it might be related to the engine breaking in through use and that summer gas is coming out. That said, I had a similar experience with my 2019 Tundra after adding my RTT. Though, it was splitting the roofline and a hard shell.

Either way, congrats on the better fuel economy!

I am right at 19k on it. Either way, I will take it. It was the first time I had over 300 miles in range. I will also be hauling a camper thus weekend, it would be great if it helps that as well . Wishful thinking I'm sure

I get better MPG with the Tonneau cover than when its not there. Prolly the same principle.

    +1 for Tents

Got our tent up for testing last week. The added weight makes the ride in the truck quite plush! When closed it sits behind the cab nice a flush.

Heading out soon to use just the tent for a longer trip on crappy roads!

Here is a shot with the kayaks on the tent crossbars these add another 100 lbs to the weight.

    So now I have:
    - Redbug - 5 lbs
    - Diamondback cover - 70 lbs
    - UpTop midrise rack - 50 lbs
    - Truck tent - 175 lbs
    - 12' Kayaks - 100 lbs
    - Camping gear - 100 lbs
    - Bikes and racks - 40 lbs
    - Skid Plates - 75 lbs
    - Running boards - 30 lbs

So 440 lbs off the payload with all this stuff.

Trailer takes 500 lbs and WDH takes 125 lbs.

So not too much left but sits great and drives/pulls great! I have started using my trailer payload to carry more stuff.

You might be on to something. We plan on taking it to Black Mesa, OK soon. The tent is a OVS TMBK. We are super excited to test it out.

I wonder if the mileage would improve if you drove around with the tent up? ;) I was planning to drive around with the tent up but figured that someone would move in at a stop light and I would have to get out the eviction notices! o_O

I think it could be aerodynamics working as the truck needs some turbulence back there. That's why bed covers don't help much.
