Astonished to notice the number of heavy equipment are been affixed on this half-ton truck. Did anybody visit a CAT scale once loaded? Is there any upper limit not to be exceeded? What could be the issues with insurances in case of accident?

My Tundra comes from factory with only 650lb or 295kg Cargo Rating.

New steel bumper: @ each 200lb more?

Thanks! My error! The 650lbs figure is not from the payload sticker, but from below, got it as I searched "cargo" in the manual. Did I mix up lbs with kg? This figure probably does not include passengers. The sticker on the truck says 1400lbs or 635kg. Anyway the payload is a worry for me as this Tundra is used for hauling a 7500lbs trailer, with a consequent tongue weight, the family, canoe, and the whole stuff needed for boondocking.

Cargo means not passengers. Toyota defines passengers at some weight so with 5 passengers the truck can only carry x amount of cargo. Just go off the payload value on the sticker, it has a lot of margin as many have showed. The actual payload (GVWR MINUS CURB WEIGHT) is much higher than the indicated payload on the sticker.

Interesting. How much margin? My sticker mentions 1400lbs actual payload. Prefer doing a budget before loading

Front and rear steel bumpers: 400lbs + Rooftop Tent Hard Shell: 170lbs + Aluminium Heavy Duty Truck Bed Rack: 80lbs + Power running boards: 50lbs that adds to 700lbs
Not counting added lights, roof rack, tow hooks, winch, …and leaves 700lbs for passengers, tools, stuff, food and water. Not much.

NB The weight of the accessories is infrequently shown on the specs online.

IIRC, Toyota assumes each passenger is 150 lbs. Might be accurate for you and your passengers, might not. My kids are small and mostly string beans, so even if we add the the two larger dogs and don't count them as passengers, we aren't at the 150 lb/passenger average.

Sounds like you may want to go to a heavy duty truck like a F-250 with that kind of weight, going on trip regularly.

Although going heavy duty didn't solve this problem.

Payload is certainly important but it's also important to check how much weight is on each axle and compare those numbers to the specification for your truck. The CAT scale is the easiest way to check that. I've found that it's pretty easy to overload the rear axle on these trucks.

Right - you’re way over GVWR before you overload the axle.

True, I'm just saying when balancing the load with towing between trailer, truck cargo and tongue weight / weight distribution it's good to keep an eye on how weight is distributed.

The rated spec GAWR (front axle) is 4080lbs, the GAWR( rear axle) is 3860 on my truck. All I was trying to say was that when adding payload to the truck, as I do when towing, I was seeing numbers coming close to that rear axle spec ( front axle was fine ) without putting a whole lot of extra stuff ( I travel fairly light ) in the bed so in my view, for my situation, it seemed pretty easy to exceed the rear axle spec before I’d come close to exceeding the front axle spec. Everyone’s towing situation is different but for me it seems like I have to be pretty careful as to what I put in the bed when towing or I approach that rear axle spec.

I didn’t realize they lowered the rear axle rating on the 3rd gen. Funny how they slash that but increased tow rating.
