How does my timing belt look?

So currently I'm just under 180k miles. The sticker on my truck says the timing belt was last done at 90k in Feb 2015.

I bought a timing belt and water pump kit months ago thinking I would do it right about now, but now I'm moving to a new state that gets snow and thinking I will sell this 2wd tundra and hope to find a 4wd one.

Question is, should I do the timing belt now? I only need to drive the truck another few thousand miles to do the relocating and a road trip in-between. Is it low risk enough to just put it off and sell the truck as is? From what I can tell the belt looks ok (see pic), but I know visual inspection isnt worth a ton.

I wouldn't do it change it if you intend to offload it. But also, be honest with your buyer, let them know the timing belt should be done in the next 1-2yrs and ~10k miles for the safety of the engine. If the kit you got is Aisin, I'd throw it in on the deal in case it's a DIY'er.

It might mean a couple of thousand more in your pocket at the sale if you do it now. At the very least, be up front and give the new owner the parts.

If I sell it private before changing it I definitely plan on letting them know and giving them the kit.

At a dealer though, if they ask about it, I figure they would rather just do it themselves than trust some DIYer to have got it done right... So I figure it wouldnt add much value to them.

I also built a custom steel bumper for it myself, and made some cuts to the plastic grill to fit a light bar and other things like that.. so I kind of expect to get shafted at the dealer and have them knock a few grand off

You're going to get shafted at a dealer no matter what. I don't know what condition your truck is in, but being it's an AZ truck, with presumably no rust, you ought to be able to get a nice price selling it privately. People are looking for these things all the time.

Yeah it's just gonna be really hard logistically because I need to move to CO in a week and I have to have a truck to haul some of my stuff there in the bed.

Maybe I'll sell it private once I'm in CO and don't have to race against the clock. It is rust free and I would love to see it go to a good home that will appreciate/make use of the off-roading mods.

Winter is just about done in CO. You should be fine to drive it there.

I've seen snow every month of the year in CO. As it's said there, "if you don't like the weather in CO, wait 5 minutes".

Yeah agreed, not worried about driving it in CO for the next 7 months or so. I am moreso worried that trying to sell it in CO will be impossible since no one there wants a 2wd truck.

Dead stock with oem 16" starfish wheels. We'll see how long that lasts. :) Topper of unknown origin.
Experienced used car buyers LOVE hearing that the seller is racing against the clock ;). If you don't need to sell it now, take it with you to CO and reassess. If you decide to sell but have time to replace the timing belt that may get $500 - $1,500 (??) on the selling price. If I'm looking at a car and it's up-to-date on maintenance that makes it more likely that I'll consider it.

Enjoy the move as much as is possible.

Oh I know lol, I'd get bent over. Since no one has triggered panic about the timing belt, think I will drive it for another month or two & few thousand miles and sell it in CO. Hopefully a Toyota enthusiast who can work with rwd will come and buy it off me.

I agree with all of these suggestions to sell privately. I would also like to ad that you will find a better offer if the TB has documentation of already being done. @ATBAV8 is correct in what he said about people willing to travel. They will also feel better knowing that the TB will not give them trouble on the way home.

Fair point. I can show receipt for the kit purchase of course, but any other good ways to document you actually did replace the TB? I can shoot a video while doing it..

Video is for sure solid proof, but I think receipt and engine bay sticker would also suffice. Did you get the Aisin kit?
