Bed cover recommendation

I went with the rough country one very minimum water if you go through car wash and it’s also low profile

 

I tried Diamondback, but had to return it due to persistent water leak, it was easy to instal, looks strong and functional, but water seal is questionable!! weather stips won't allign properly around the center console, it's a hit or miss,

 

Bak was my favorite brand until I moved to Florida. We all have our own experiences, but I'll say this as mine... Bak makes quality - ish products but they tend to separate down here in my climate. I see a lot of them replaced.

In Texas, I had three and loved them all. The company was also great for the warranty replacement I had due to hail.

As far as rain protection, they are all labeled water resistant but I have seen some go through hurricanes and not leak.

I'm on the Retrax side now, but they are much higher than 1k.

I would look for a true cap if you want water proof. If that won't work, I would stick to a local shop since they almost all install for free and can recommend ones based on your market and often help if issues come up.

 

Do you guys have feedback regarding undercover Elite LX? They are on the higher price point compared to others. Not sure how functional they are.

If you didn't remove the side bed caps and install the rubber shims under them, you probably deformed the caps when you installed the center section of the tonneau cover when you bolted it down. Also, you need to adjust the locking bars with some weight/pressure on them to get a good weather stripping seal. I have had my DiamondBack for a couple of years now and have had it out in some horrendous rainstorms with no leakage issues.

Maybe not. The torque was up to the manufacturer's recommendation, (Not Bolted) and for the record the bed caps has been inspected by Toyota tech. Dont assume what you don't know. I think Diamondback is making great covers but mine was defective for sure

 

Don't get your panties in a wad so quickly over my response. I think you took my response completely wrong. DiamondBack didn't start sending the rubber shims in their installation kits until about 2 years ago. Your post didn't say when you had your problem with the DiamondBack leaking. So, I didn't know when you installed your cover. Prior to that, people were installing the center section and torquing it down with the 4 bolts and deforming the bed caps because there was some space underneath the cap. Not sure how you installed your DiamonaBack without bolting the center section down to the bed caps ("Not Bolted"). I'm not assuming anything. I merely offered a possible reason for your leakage issue. I'm sure DiamondBack would have done the right thing and sent a replacement cover if you had asked.

This is a public forum, I won't go into an argument with you that may hurt the company's reputation unintentionally. Despite all that, I still recommend Diamondback, it is a good cover, and yes i agree with you, replacement will be a good option.

I had a DB cover on my 2019 Ridgeline and now have one of my Tundra. I haven't had another cover to compare but I have seen the flip cover that comes on a new Taco and it seemed pretty good. They all leak to some degree but my covers have been pretty good overall.

I really like the ability to bolt things to it like my Thule rack and some cross bars for a bike rack. It is very utilitarian! Biggest drawback is the price compared to the flip and rollup covers out there.

I have had a few skids loaded right on top of the cover recently for work. It is not as pretty as some of those streamlined covers but makes up for it with the strength of an Ox

When I took the truck in for a check-up a few months back, I had to laugh that they did the "Tonneau Cover Recall" on my truck. I am still wondering what that consisted of?

 

I got a Gator low profile roll up cover on Amazon for under $100 used. Came unused, was a third of the price new and does not leak at all. Not a drop. I live in Hawaii and it rains hard. You do get pooling if it rains a lot but cover will not leak. No rips or tears. Cleaned it yesterday and it looks brand new. I have access to full bed any time and it rolls and unrolls in seconds. Makes zero noise and improved my gas mileage. I wouldn’t spend a ton of money on a cover, save it for new tires down the road. The low profile cover is also compatible with bed racks and cannot be opened if tailgate is locked (but I’m sure a knife would open it up quite quickly). Made by GATOR and owned for 3 years now.

 

Installed a bakflip mx4 yesterday on mt 23. Great cover, my 2nd one.
