I know this question has been discussed a bunch, but looking for advice for my specific situation. I bought a 2012 limited with 150k on it… transmission feels fine but I have no idea what the service history of it is. I called a AAMCO transmission shop to ask what they thought and they said to just leave it and not worry about it (don’t even drain and fill). What would you guys do with it?

Just do it as you don't have any history. Do a full service, drain and everything. Peace of mind. Unless you have full service history I would consider the other major items before 150K, spark plugs, differentials, etc, etc. Part of a purchase should be service history and maintenance.

Would agree with @JohnWhicker Just start somewhere. There are peeps on here who have never changed it till like 250k, like yours truly. I've had some documented services due to issues with the transmission, and dealership has conducted some of these as part of the package. As of now, I'm draining and filling every 30K miles or so, at least the pan, which drains out about 4 quarts, but there is 6 in there.... If you do 4 quarts every oil change, and you drive enough to do it in a year, then you will get about 80-90% of the fluid out there in that year..

Important- do drain and fill only. Don't let a shop do a transmission flush.

There are definitely 12 ish quarts in mine, and the level is correct.

Not questioning it.. I know because I've pulled my transmission pan.. 4 quarts drained and there were 2 more still in there.

I see what you’re saying, but it also circulates through the torque converter, will take 3-4 pan drain and fills to really get through all of it.

I'd probably do 4 drain/fills over the course of the next 3-6 months. Fluid is way cheaper than a new transmission!
