    I saw this as well. This is actually not the first I have heard of one of these engines surviving a timing belt failure. It's almost as if they aren't fully interference engines.

    I think non-VVT and idling at time of failure is what saves most of these

    Makes sense that idling wouldn't cause as severe of damage.

    Yeah, I recently found out a family friend had his 02’ Sequoia pop a belt while idling and it was fine.

    His thought was the truck wasn’t worth the cost of replacing the belt so he ran it till it failed. I think he was sub 300k when it let go.

    He actually thought it would go 400+ before letting go.

    He had a buddy help him swap the belt, and his wife’s been driving it ever since.
