    Hello Tundra people.
Anyone have any helpful hints when dropping the trans pan and changing out fluid and filter ? Wont be flushing the system as ive heard it can be produce unwanted results. Just draining the fluid then removing pan and replacing trans filter.
Probably order the parts from RockAuto. Any suggestions on brands ? Any helpful hints would be appreciated. Thank you in advance.

Welcome from LA (Lower Alabama)! But as stated previously, don't so it. The bolts on the drain pan are notorious for breaking off, creating a nightmare repair situation unless you are well acquainted with removing broken off bolts that are very tight in their threads.

The filter doesn't need to be changed. Leave it alone unless you want to install an extra deep pan.

That’s some good advice. I did think about just draining the fluid and refilling the same amount I drain out.
my concern is in not replacing the trans filter though. I have a heavy duty mechanic background so I’m not opposed to drilling out the ones that break off, tapping out the holes and spending the time.
    I’m sitting at 275,000 kms (170k miles)
Checked the color of the fluid already and it’s not totally black, more brown and does not smell burnt.

Anyone know what the maintenance schedule is on the trans filter ?
    Just curious.
and thank you for all the replies.
    Very helpful site so far.

It's fine for at least another 500k. Do a drain and fill every 30-40k and leave it alone.

    Let me pile on.

Just do a drain and fill. Then approx. next oil change do another drain and fill. Then approx. next oil change do a final drain and fill. Go ~150,000kms and repeat. You get the idea.

    Thanks guys.
Will leave the pan bolts and filter alone. Way less of a PITA aswell.
Love my Tundra…my next truck will be another Tundra.

    Cheers from Eastern Canada !

It’s not a filter like many folks use it’s more of a strainer so no real reason to swap it.
