I have a '21 Tundra TRD Pro w/ the LX 32v 5.7LV8, Fox suspension, and stock dual exhaust w/ 4 cats & 2 mufflers. It is still under factory warranty w/ only 30K miles. Problem is the smell. I live in the Central Rockies. After a sustained climb over a pass, the rotten egg smell is strong. The Toyota dealership has run "diagnostics" and said the cats were fine. Question: would deleting the secondary cats (behind the 02 sensors) help eliminate the sulfur smell or make it worse?

So the only time I’ve run into the sulfur smell is if I haven’t worked the truck hard in a while. That smell is just the stuff in the cats heating up and burning off. Removing the rears wouldn’t really help that and might make it worse.

Thanks Tundra234, but I am not looking to replace my TRD Pro dual exhaust with an after market product. Just interested in eliminating the source of the smell.

No worries, but Keith can give you an answer on removing the cats and what affects it would have. He's an outstanding guy to talk to.

That is normal, does the smell comes into the cabin or why do you smell it? - may be the real issue.

Does it smell funny in the cab? Maybe you have mice in the HVAC system, check your cabin filter for evidence. The fresh air intake doesn't come screened from the factory and many owners wind up with rodent issues. One member here nearly died from a parasite infection caused by mice in his truck HVAC system.

Many thanks all for your responses ... particularly reywcms. BTW - sweet build! Might like to follow-up w/ you re the supercharger. I previously had a Taco and a Runner supercharged (Magnuson) and loved the gains for the 4.0L V6s.

FYI to others, my Tundra is virtually new still under factory warranty, no mice, cabin filter has been changed, and like I mentioned in opening thread, I live in the Central Rockies ... so, lack of "work" for the truck is not the issue. Make no mistake, it is a strong rotten egg smell emanating from the cats (and not "normal" unless a bad design or faulty units which the dealership denies) that can be smelled if trailing the truck down the road, can be smelled when pulled into the garage after shutdown, and most annoying can be smelled in the cab when wheeling, or in town at stops, or on the front range in stop & go I70/I25 traffic.

Still collecting intel, but it is time for the smell to be gone. I'll re-post when I take action and report results: good, bad, or indifferent.
