What have you done to your 1st gen Tundra today?

Little headlight restoration. Still don’t look brand new but night and day difference. Photos don’t really do it justice.

We just got a HF like a year ago. I've never been to NT.

 

They have so many of those little Knick-knack's for the garage/shop. The 18" magnetic strips are nice and I use the socket organizers

 

Honestly IME, HF is more tool/automotive/machine related. Tractor Supply is more farm/acreage related. NT is somewhere in between, but maybe favoring HF A bit more.

NT actually (last time I was in one) had some of the same brands, like Chicago Pneumatic or whatever. IIRC, NT has their own in-store brand that is maybe equivocal to Husky for Home Depot or Kobalt for Lowes.

He says nothing about longevity/durablity of the creepers, so it’s of little value.

 

My takeaway is, there are basically two or three types of blow molded bases with different wheels, new wheels for each new brand name. Otherwise identical.

I remember bitd, creepers had angled rollerblade style wheels that made it easy to roll around. Everything looks like cheap garbage these days. Maybe I need to be hunting for a used vintage creeper.

They do last somewhat forever. Yes, I agree they suck in that you can’t move easily around.

 

I've got an old Craftsman with those casters. Not the best, but it's definitely a sturdy creeper and works well for me.

To be fair, and I truly mean no offense by this, white collar guys don't use tools the same way blue collar guys use tools. Frequency of use is also a huge factor. HF is good for stuff you won't need often or for a long time. Often everyday requires quality tools. Rather they be hand tools or power tools or air tools. No legit tradesman uses HF tools for his specific toolset.

 

I mean most stuff is. But when it comes to a creeper I wouldn't overthink it. Aside from the wheels, there isn't much that can break. I don't treat mine gentle at all. Many times I've dropped down on it like a recliner and the wheels keep working. It looks like whoever makes the creeper for HF also sells a nearly identical one for Advance and Walmart. Same plastic mold. Goes back to what you were saying before. It does look like the reviews on HF are mixed. Lots of 1 stars.

I guess if I wanted to spend 5x as much I'd try this one. One advantage to mine is a place to sit tools and nuts/bolts. Most of the other creepers don't have that. I use that feature nearly every time. It also has a hole/handle that allows me to hang it on my wall.

The one I’m thinking of used angled polyurethane wheels, not the steel wheels (though I remember those well), and had an inset metal frame where the board was barely off the ground, wheels were off to the side. I feel like it improved on the shortcomings of the steel wheels with a ~3” poly wheel, but also didn’t have you sitting 4-6” off the floor with wheels directly under it, they were more off to the side. Hell if I remember who made it, but I feel like even Craftsman had their own iteration back then. I’m sure it was made in Taiwan, this would’ve been in the 80s. Taiwan typically engineered good quality stuff, it’s when manufacturing shifted to mainland China when we started to get complete garbage.

I mentioned a few pages back that I had to remove my rear sway bar, (already had removed the front one some time before), because of my archive garage U bolt flip interfering with the Addco rear sway I had added. Doesnt seem to be hardly any difference with no sway bars. Im sure the new leaf springs in the rear are helping with that.

 

Finished up my bed stiffeners and then made a new Battery bracket for my new Odyssey battery I just installed. Had different dimensions than my stock battery bracket.

 

Finished rebuilding my brake calipers yesterday afternoon. I used Toyota's rebuild kit (04479-60081) and new Akebono pads.













Took it for a drive last night and didn't crash and burn so everything seems to be in order.

 

How was this process? Any idea if this rebuild kit would work with powerstop calipers? Werent powerstop basically remanned Toyota brakes?

 

You may still have your original WE calipers, his are WL and this is the process. It may translate nicely to WE, but possibly diff't rebuild kit.

Yes, been happy with the padded non-reclining HF version got about 20 years ago and mine came with a tool tray too that fits on the side about double the size of this one. The frame is stout. The padding is nice. About to replace the that are beat up from blacktop for $16 or get the new . Probably be getting this too. Saw this but passed; it was kinda wide.

 

Nice work. Have a caliper rebuild set waiting for longer summer days.... Its so cool they are only like $15 for both calipers. How'd you clean up the caliper body back to a shine?

 

No, those opened kits end up on the open package & returns shelf in the back corner of the store with a purple marked down to tag.

 

Nothin’ special really, put in some of those yellow LEDs for my fogs. One of my fogs has been out since I bought the truck almost 5 years ago Not sure how much difference they’ll make, but they look cool
