IMG_9179.PNG.jpg I was wiping my truck down and noticed a gap on the roof of the truck. Present on both sides but looks like it should have that gap. Looks like I can push the smaller part of that rubber piece forward, but I don't want to try it unless I know that the gap should be there. Can anyone check theirs and chime in? My truck is a 2017 sr5 crewmax btw.

Seats yours came with one. I was missing mine on the driver side and ended up moving and toyota said they couldn't cover it because I had miles on my rig. The other side is matched up nicely though

So here's what I did. I popped off the molding. One clip up front. Since it had a gap, it was easy to pop up. Could've caught wind and flew off. Probably what happened to a few others that had theirs missing. As you can see, there's only about an inch and a half of double sided tape. Not the best tape either as it came off fairly easily. IMG_9181.jpg
I cleaned the channel and removed a good amount of tape from the molding. I layed out some new 3m (exterior mounting tape). Hopefully it withstands California heat. We shall see. IMG_9182.jpg
I then lined it up correctly (atleast what I think should be the correct way). This way the gap is minimal and does not create too much of a parachute effect. It actually lines up better on the bottom part which lines up with the molding for the rear window. Hope this helps someone And I hope mine doesn't go flying off. LolIMG_9184.jpg

I had that come off going down the freeway in my last Tundra. It started slapping the back window and scared the hell out of me.

I could see that happening actually. Especially with the 1.5" strip of OEM Toyota tape to hold a 10" piece of molding that is vulnerable to wind. Lol

Hold the Line! If you are not holding the line, abandon your ship. Destruction is inevitable without more to hold the line!
Mine does not even have weather stripping up there. I guess the previous owner cut/tore it off. No leaks though!

im not even sure if it considered weather stripping cause its not a water tight seal or anything. I think the cut section is removed if you decide to install oem racks or something?

weird right? idk. ill just use common sense that the gap would cause a parachute effect causing it to rip off and fly away. I feel much better with the gap at a minimal or none.

thats exactly how mine was. But you see how if you move it up to fill that gap, the bottom of the molding would line up better with that little channel between the window molding and the little crease of the truck?

I do see that, and probably would have never noticed that gap until you posted about it. It is now on my must do list. Thank you.

Some Mods :) See build thread for details
    Good memory

Installed a new OEM roof weather stripping that mysteriously disappeared. Most likely car wash.

Goodies behind the strip in the back.

Even with the new one there is still a gap. I just pulled it as tight as i could and added glue to hold in place. Thought about adding some black silicon in there too.

The new oem replacements have an adhesive backing. You can always go to the stealer ship and they'll replace under warranty if you tell them the rubber pops off on occasion.

I think you want a little bit of a gap for expansion of the rubber on hot days....

Now I'm wondering if the gap serves a purpose. No biggie though as is not a crucial mechanical part. My opinion ofcourse.

Obviously related. This truck is completely missing the passenger side weather stripping up top, and the decal specifically mentions a gap...

    Chive on.....

I do understand it comes that way from factory based on the replies on this thread. Howeverm that gap is causing this section of the weather stripping to fly off on some trucks. Since ive pulled mine apart and repositioned it, I feel that it is not going to cause that parachute effect and catch wind which causes these them to rip right off. Idk. Just sharing my fix because id rather not have this thing fly off. If the gap is there for an important reason, easy for me to revert back to it as my fix is not permanent.

Id mention it. Since its CPO, there should be some kind of warranty attached to it. i would try taking it back and showing it to em.

Mine has the same issue. My passenger side came loose driving down the road the other day during high winds, scared the sh*t out of me and almost wrecked into a river. Thought I fixed it, but it came loose again later on down the road. I ended up just taking it off to keep from loosing it completely. Will try the 3M tape like the OP did once the weather dries here.

If you are fixing it leaving the gap present, maybe try to place it back on without the gap present. I have about 4k miles since i did this and mine has not moved at all.
