Hi everybody and welcome from Colorado!

I just sold a '17 Taco for an '18 Tundra TRD Sport and couldn't be happier! I've gotten the itch to modify this beast and am looking into a 2in lift front and back. After countless posts read I now feel stuck because there are so many opinions on this and I'm struggling to decide...

The stock rake on the truck looks great to me so I'm wanting to stick with something which mirrors that. Just threw on 34in tires which lifted it 2in from stock (275/65/R20), and my budget is around $1500 max so I believe I can get something decent. I put a $600 3in Rough Country lift on my Taco and am not going that route again. The lift was fantastic but the ride experience was jarring. So far the candidates I've picked:

Fox 2.0 (2 in front, 1.5 in back with shackle or block)
    Bilstein 6112/5140
    Bilstein 5110

I drive 80% highway, 20% offroad/overland, and above ALL else I value comfort at this point more than anything. What are your experiences and opinions on a set-up if you were within this budget? I appreciate any feedback!

Check out the Eibach Pro 2.0s. They’re a softer ride than Bilsteins, but can also handle some offroad use with similar performance. Shock Surplus seems to like them a lot on their test vehicles, and have said it’s the best 2.0 offering on the market. They also now offer rear shocks with remote reservoirs if you think you need them. I’m quite happy with mine so far. The height can also be adjusted with them using a spanner wrench while still installed on the truck if you just lift the corner you’re adjusting off the ground with a floor jack. I’ve had 5100s and 6112s on their top setting, and I prefer these.

Thanks for the response. I'm now looking into these, also just found out about Rancho but reading a lot of mixed results.

Steer clear of Rancho. I used their 1.75" quick lift coilovers on my 1st gen Tacoma. They rode horribly. Then about 11 months later I pulled them off and replaced them with 5100s. When I disassembled the ranchos I found one shock absorbed was not extending at all (just staying in the compressed position).

Going from 32s to 34s gives you 1” of lift (or ground clearance), not 2”. That other extra inch in the 34” tire’s diameter is above the axle. :)

That said, I have the TRD Fox kit with a 2” lift up front and added RAS in the rear to keep factory rake.

Fox 2.0 coilovers with rear add a leaf. Solid handling good combo for on/off road for the price. Big difference from stock

Thank you for the clarification, makes total sense. 34in added 2in to the diameter of the tire but the actual clearance is 1in.

After reading more into it I'm thinking either the Fox 2.0s or Eibach Stage 2 - seems to have good reviews although doesn't look as popular as some other options: https://www.shocksurplus.com/produc...ota-tundra-4wd-rwd-w-0-2-75-lift#part-numbers

Can anyone comment to ride quality on that? I think anything I pick will be better than RC, but still if spending that kind of dough want to go the best route for the price.

Also with the Fox 2.0s...is it possible to DIY repair those once you hit 50k-ish miles? I would think that's a huge PITA.
