Chevy 63 swap

Hey guys, I’m looking at doing a Chevy 63 leaf pack swap on my 06 tundra. I know it’s a super popular thing to do on tacomas but haven’t heard or seen much of anything on a first gen tundra besides one dude in who did it in 2007. Any input would be appreciated thanks!

 

Yeah I've seen a quite a few do it on Tacomas . I don't see any reason it wouldn't work in this case. I do know our springs are longer than Tacoma springs. But I assume the Chevy springs are longer than ours. Do it and make a detailed thread about it with picks .

There is a thread where one person installed a set (and said they ride and flex well and don't sag as much as factory leafs when loaded up). The Chevy leafs are longer, and you will be replacing both mounts as well or it would offset the axle too far front or back if you replaced only one. Getting away from any amount of axle hop would be great as well.

I think TMR makes a leaf spring kit for mounts, or you can fabricate your own.

One thing to consider, as you add up the costs:

• Chevy lift leaf springs
• New longer shocks (and possibly new mounts)
• mounts & bushings
• assembly time (or labour costs) to grind off old mounts and weld on new
• wire wheel/grinder and fresh primer/paint

Is that if your going to this amount of effort, split the leaf pack, if the individual leafs aren't already drilled then drill (slowest speed, use oil and push hard) and then add in the plastic cups so that the leafs flex smoother and don't rub/grind against each other. You can go all out and sand blast, primer/paint & graphite paint to help as well.

The benefits of this should make for a smoother ride, but all this time and labour add up.

I did the above mods to a set of 63's and havent driven on them yet (long story - 89 hilux)

Funny story... Looking to pick up some used Raptor struts on Saturday myself. Some people on marketplace rebuild these for fairly cheap apparently.

I think the stock rear shocks are eyelet/stud, and the raptor shocks are eyelet/eyelet. I have a box of studs I had machined up for my 80 series one ton swap hopefully they fit and I can make use of them.
