When I have XM playing and someone sends a message, the music doesn't mute so I'm unable to hear the message. I cant turn music level down, but have to turn up volume to hear the message. I have looked at truck settings and phone settings and can't find anything that applies. Is it possible to have music automatically mute for incoming message ???

One of my biggest complaints about my 22 Tundra. I'm not sure if there is a fix for it. Really annoying.

I can not even get this option to work. But have you tried turning the radio off completely?

Press the big volume knob to mute the music while listening to a message. Then again to unmute when done. I know, we shouldn't have to do this and maybe Toyota will fix it? IDK.

Turning the volume knob while Siri is talking adjusts her volume only and remembers that volume setting for any future Siri voice. *Also affect the message alert tone volume.

@Racer57 if the March 4 head unit update is supposed to resolve this, it didn’t for me. I have rev 2050 and experienced the XM music source not muting during messaging.

Thx Ryan. Im 99% positive I recd that update and didn't notice any changes. I'll have to go out and do some testing to see that I can still adjust Siri's volume like I used to.

I have noticed that on Podcasts with Car Play it DOES stop the show while Siri reads the message to me. Not the case with music even on Car Play. Although on Car play with music from my phone the music does go down in volume when she is speaking. Not so with my old school Nano on Bluetooth.

Does anyone know if the latest March 4th update actually fixes this problem? It would be nice to hear text messages without needing to manually turn the radio off, first.

on a brief road trip yesterday and with rev 2050 HU software, music source (Sirius XM) did not mute while listening to text messages via CarPlay/Siri

My HU SW version is 1050 and it says no updates avail. Might be why my volume knob still controls Siri.

I might be an outlier, but I like that the music keeps playing when I listen to messages. It plays the music out of speakers further from the driver while the message is directed at the driver.

Seems Odd I’m not getting updates. Checked in Settings and Auto Update is turned On.

So my company uses WebEx for video calls…I’m on them all the time. Works fine with CarPlay in my other vehicles. On my new Tundra, all I hear is white noise for volume. Any ideas?

The Honda Ridgeline knows to mute the radio and lower the A/C fan speed when taking a call.

The Gen 3 Tundras also mute the radio when placing or taking a call, and also for navigation prompts. But that's not what this thread is about.

The problem is the radio doesn't mute when text messages are being read back to you. You have to manually shut off, or mute, the radio, first, before selecting the message to be read. It should mute the radio automatically, just like calls and navigation, like most vehicles do.

Hopefully Toyota will address this deficiency soon.

So I am chiming in again. I experience the same problem with music. HOWEVER, on a podcast it does exactly what I want; pauses, Siri reads me the message, then I can tell her what I want to do with that message, then the Podcast come right back in exactly where it stopped. I am hopeful the new update will repair it, but I also wonder if it’s only on CarPlay?

So I’ve been checking my software version daily. Still 1050 and “No Updates Available” Today, same routine but I left it on the software update page while driving. About 45 seconds later a window popped up - Software Update Available - Install Now Y/N. Interesting. Did leaving the update window open cause it to go check for updates or was it just dumb luck it popped up at that time? Anyway, on 2050 now plus two other updates. Dont notice any differences yet but I have yet to test messages and volume/muting. (Navigation, Voice Recognition, and 1 other ??? Updated)

This has been an ongoing issue with my tundra for some reason. Even with the 2050 software. This is my 3rd vehicle with CarPlay, and this is the only one that behaves this way. Including my wife’s car would make it vehicle 4. It’s SUPPOSED to stop media when Siri is activated. I’m leaning towards this being a software bug that hopefully gets fixed soon.

I just got a 2025 Tundra 1794 - after learning that Carplay doesn't mute - I called Toyota. IT person was patient and after talking to several techs said Toyota is aware but does not have a timeline/eta for a fix :( Not sure how a safety feature that was designed and intended to keep drivers less distracted does not work is acceptable to any car Manufacturer. I've found the best way to get companies to respond to issues is to use social media.Get onto anything that Toyota has in regards to being happy with a Toyota and start hammering away - when the millions of social media users spread the word - that lights fire under companies because that's how the world operates these days - bad social media posts get around quick and get companies to act!!

This continues to be one my biggest peeves with my Gen 3. What's the point of handsfree messaging, if you can't hear them over the radio, or other audio sources? I've gotten used to hitting the big volume knob before selecting the incoming text message, but that really shouldn't be necessary.

Hoping a future software update corrects it.

My 2024 1794 LE moves the music to the right speakers and reads the messages on the left. I'm always able to reply to a text and it picks it up clearly with the music on. I'm using Apple CarPlay with YouTube Music connected through Bluetooth.

Do you guys get an audible ‘ding’ or anything to alert you a text just came in?
I looked down the other day and noticed 3 texts had been delivered.
Once I manually click the text Siri asks if I want it read. The radio does lower slightly.

To get “dings” I think that’s a setting on your phone OR an option on CarPlay about incoming messages

Any iphone user ever ask Siri to read thr text? I started to do this with my Andriod. I'll ask Google to play text.
