Hey gang, looking for some info from the community on this subject. I've seen a few guys have done this but the info is scattered...

Can you bolt on and plug & play power folding mirrors off a Limited, Platinum or 1974 onto an SR5? Or, can anyone recommend a 3rd party option? I assume you would also need the button/switch for the control as well. The big question for me - does the wiring on an SR5 trim package already have the plug-ins to accommodate?

I have an older house with narrow garage doors. In order to pull in, I have to get out and fold in the mirrors. The power fold/retract option sure would be nice - especially in the winter!

    Any experience or advice?

    Cheers!

There is a recent walk through of a member that did this in his build a few weeks back. It is not plug and play. it’s pretty involved and the stock folding mirrors aren’t cheap to buy used. If you search you’ll find his thread.

There is another excellent write up on TundraTalk as well by member “Robots” (sp?) I believe.

Right on, I'll see what I can find on TundraTalk as well.

Anything "involved" is not going to be my strong suit... My patience level with electronics is about the equivalent Frankenstein playing Jenga...

Correct. The feature was removed years ago from the limited package. Pretty ridiculous.

Op, I’m limited on bandwidth atm, but if you don’t find the threads I will post the links later

that and the power passenger seat removal from the limited for a few years cost me a HUGE headache with an F150

I'd say. A pretty nice feature that i'm sure a good portion of us would love to have...

some basic features seem to be missing around that. ex: auto fold mirrors on park/lock.

After looking at the links posted here, I have come to the conclusion that attempting this mod/install is WAY beyond my patience level...

I honestly think it would be easier to widen my garage door by 18" and install a new ovhd door...

    lol right?!
I really commend the guys who pulled this mod off. And it makes me really frustrated at Toyota for continuing to strip features off their already bare bones trim.

    Too many…scratch that…not done yet.
I posted this in the "What have you done to your 3rd Gen" thread. Thought I would add a copy here for future reference/ searches.

Adding Platinum Mirrors to 3rd gens.

After months of searching, I lucked out and got a heck of a deal on ebay for a pair. I used the DIY guide from here for directions on building a wiring harness and pinning the plugs for all the features to work. I bought the new mirror control switch off ebay.

If you've seen any of my other mods on here you may know that I'm always up for a DIY challenge and I always look for a way to mod my mods...just for that extra custom touch. No difference here....

I got some LED strips from here that have both White DRLs and Amber [sequential running] blinking LEDs.

I wanted something functional, yet sleek and discreet. So, after disassembling and spending a few days working out the design, I ended up doing the following:

1.) Cutting a small slit in the mirror housing so that only the side of the strip was visible.

2.) After I cut the slit, I made a little shelf out of black polypropylene (glued it in, then plastic welded it to the housing).

3.) I don't have a picture of the next step, but I glued the LED strip in, and covered the entire light with black silicone and overlapped it to the housing and little shelf.
4.) I then mounted the control housing to the inside of the housing.
5.) I then added some new LED puddle lights and reconnected everything. I ran the LED strip wiring down along the mirror control wiring bundle.
6.) There's a little open area where the mirror wires come through and into the plug. I ran the 3-wires from the LED strip into this area.
    - I then split the Black ground. I posi-tap'd one of the split Black grounds and the Amber wire (from LED strip) into the mirror signal (- and+, respectively).
    - I then took the red wire from the LED strip (for the White DRL) and the other Black ground, added about 6' more of red/black wire and added some heat shrink.
7.) I then ran the 6-wire Mirror control harness and the LED DRL harness through the door and into the cab. I repeated the process on the passenger and ran the wire through the dash and over to the driver side.
8.) I combined the respective harnesses from each side.
    - For the mirror controls, I followed the DIY guide reference above.
    - For the White DRL's: I wanted to control them independently, so I wired them up to an AOB switched.

If the DRL's are on, the amber turn signals override the white, then come back on after signal is off.
Below is a couple shots of the White DRL's on, and Amber turn signal (after a few tries, I caught a pic of the sequential run)
Of course, they're much brighter at night.

I did the power-fold mod on my '18 Limited. It was definitely involved, but not impossible. You do have to have patience to get the wires into the doors and re-pin the connectors, but I 100% LOVE having the power-folding mirrors and the auto-dim. Ridiculous that they took the feature away from the Limited when they introduced the 1794 trim.

I just finished installing the power folding mirrors on my 2016 SR5. I followed the thread on Tundra Talk and there are a few thing that I will add to make installing easier for the next person. https://www.tundratalk.net/threads/...all.439441/page-2?nested_view=1&sortby=oldest

In the instruction it says to feed the wire through the door snorkel but failed to mentioned the snorkel is taped to the wiring harness so you can't push the wire through. Push the snorkel inside the truck by disconnecting it from the driver's door. This will give you enough snorkel inside the truck to remove the tape, feed the wire through and retape.

Instead of powering the puddle light from the inside driver's door light use the rear cargo light wire. You can turn on your puddle lights with the cargo light and not have the cab interior lights come on. Also if your driving and have to turn on the interior lights, wiring it to the driver's floor light results in the puddle lights coming on while driving down the road. The cargo light wire can be found in fhe harness under the driver's side kick panel. It's a dark brown wire.
    20240303_160542.jpg

Other than those small added details the thread on Tundra Talk is spot on.

Love having the folding feature and the puddle lights.
