I didn't want to derail the high mileage 3rd Gen Tundra thread as I will be paying attention to it.

    It did get me thinking.

Would I buy a 2022 Tundra with high mileage and 10k oil changes or a low miles 2018 with 5k oil changes. Maintenance is one of the keys I look for when buying used. Both have a documented history with Carfax.

    Similar asking prices.

    Before they disappear.

Me the 2018 for the more frequent oil changes and proven reliability record. This could change for me once we get 5 years of higher mileage ones on the new generation.

Im not buying (financing) high mileage anything lol. I dont care if it has 1k oil change intervals and is an iron block 4 cylinder old taco, im not going to put myself in a bad situation from the getgo. Story is different if im paying cash for a third car or beater.

for what its worth your comparison is also DC vs CrewMax which the crew cab or crewmax holds its resale value much better across every brand.

I dont think theres any situation where anyone would buy that ‘22 lol, even to us 3rd gen owners. Especially now. I paid not much more than that for a NEW ‘23 crewmax SR….

If you buy new and trade or sell them before 100k miles for the next new one, you don't have to consider this.

Plus I see this as an indication of quality. Toyota continues with it's history of putting out vehicles that last a long time without major repair, great!

If not the used market will reflect it.

That is how I shop even new, "would I buy this vehicle with 150,000 miles on it"? If no is the answer, even if I don't keep them that long, I pass on it.

Then again Land Rover (Tata motors), Mercedes and BMW now count on buyers never asking that question and leasing them.

I chuckled at the 'low mileage" they put next to the mileage on the 2022 ad.

In what world is 122k miles low, for a 2-3 year old vehicle?

I would expect to get more use out of a used 2nd gen Tundra–even one that already has 150k miles–than just about any other gas engine vehicle on the road, including the new TTv6 truck.

That said, I'd go non-flex fuel for sure.

I live in Florida where we have quite a few retirees. Low mileage vehicles used with great service records are not difficult to find here. LOL.

Neither one of those. Find yourself a low mileage unmolested gently used 2021 and don't look back.

That 2018 is a great looking truck. I have a 2018 and it has been a great truck. Just me, but I would never buy a truck with that much mileage in that few of years. They probably knew they were going to get a new truck (probably being paid for by their company) and they drove it hard and put it up wet. Good luck.

I only buy new. I see what people do with their vehicles daily on the road.

The SR above is way overpriced. With deflating resale and SR with those miles is a low 20s trade in at best

I think it comes to personal preference of each truck since the 2.5 gen and the 3 get are so different. Granted that each have things that people favor over the other, you need to figure out which you prefer. I love my 3 gen and I am not the biggest fan of the 2-2.5 gens. so I wouldn't pick a 2.5 gen over a 3 gen just because the milage is better... with that said, 120K is A LOT. Personally (and I believe someone else mentioned it), I would only consider a high milage like that if it was a toy.. wouldn't want to rely on that for years of dependability.

OP with high interest rates on used and Toyota dealers finally discounting new Tundras, as well as offering 4.9% for 60 months on new, I would find a deal on a new or demo 2023-24. I got $8000 off my demo 1794. You have to shop smart, honestly they both seem overpriced.

Seems like a pretty obvious question. I can't see any reason not to choose the lower mileage truck with a better maintenance history.

I'm no expert on the subject, but I do know different components and sensors creates more failure points. Also fuel mileage isn't great because the fuel is crap. Lastly, there's a bunch of anecdotal evidence of issues with this vehicle. That's enough for me to say "best to keep looking".
