It may be a regional deal, which is ridiculous if so. Alabama and Florida are Southeast Toyota Distributor regions, while Mississippi is not.

100% a regional issue. I am having my truck transferred to another region, which is easy since I am in northwest Alabama (Southeast Toyota Distributor). Mississippi is Gulf States, Tennessee is Ohio Valley. Either is only about an hour drive. Thanks for the info, Mr. Toyota1990!

It's crazy they can't just ship the parts where they are needed. If they would have forced me to wait months I would have asked for a buy back. I'm supposed to pick my truck up in the morning. They said the noise is gone and it's good to go. We will see.

Before and after preferably to see what changed and compare mine. If not all good mine ticks on a steady rhythm since day one and I'm at 18.5k and it’s driving smoother as weather is warming but I mainly want to hear the fixed sound or the lack of. Thanks

I will try to get a video tomorrow. I have listened to several other trucks that have that have the same noise as mine had but as much quieter amplitudes. I'm almost certain they problem is caused by to much clearance in clutch packs. I think mine was just really bad.

    Excited to heat that video!

Does your truck also do the "drive thru tick" after the replacement? (Not sure how to explain this tick, but I know everyone tends to hear it while in a drive thru. When stationary and in Drive, the trans ticks in ticks of 3.

Almost positive the 3 tick series you hear is not the trans. It is the wastegate you hear ticking and is completely normal. My 22 did it and.my 24 does it.

Glad to hear that your noise is gone. You did confirm it was a new, rather than remanufactured transmission? I transferred mine to the dealer I purchased it from and they (supposedly) have a transmission/torque converter on order. I was misled several times from the jump about how long it would take. It took them three weeks to decide to replace the transmission (whereas yours only took a day). I was then told I would be good to go in less than two weeks. That turned into another few weeks. That turned into we cannot order a transmission because they are on national backorder. I eventually called other regions regarding availability and confirmed your experience. If I would have known it was going to take this long in the beginning, I would have proceeded with the buyback. IF I would have known that other regions were able to order transmissions while Southeast Toyota was not, I would have never taken it to the first place. Live and learn I guess. I wanted to do a replacement, but apparently there were no replacements available in a similar trim and the first thing close to my trim was not being built until April.

Yes, it was a new trans and torque convertor. It's crazy they can't source parts from other areas. I would have definitely fought for a buy back had they made me wait weeks or months. I had a great experience with carl hogan toyota. They even gave me a new toyota tundra loaner to drive for the 3 days they had it.

I started to have it transferred down there. The lady I spoke to was very professional and nice. Probably would have been worth the 2.5 hour drive for me. The Tennessee dealer is an hour closer though. I agree that it is crazy that they cannot source from other regions. I was told that there was an upcharge of 25% in costs associated with it. At the end of the day, that should not matter and they should do whatever it takes to repair the vehicles that do not even have 1,000 miles on them.

Wanted to update you guys on my situation. They had my truck for 15 days in the dealership and replaced the transmission OEM they said. Picked it up on Saturday, tested it out and did not hear the ticking anymore. While I was at a drive thru today, I heard it again!! I will test it out again later today and if it's still there I will be calling them tomorrow morning.

Any way you can post a video of the noise you are experiencing? I just wonder if it is the same noise we are talking about as mine is very noticeable without having to be in a drive through and also only present in park or neutral.

So this video is with the transmission? I think the ticks every 3-5 seconds is normal as we all have it.

Hmmm...interesting. Toyota engineers didn't like it and prompted the dealership to replace the transmission and new one is also doing it now.

I believe this ticking is normal. Many forum members have it, my truck has it, and service director truck at my Toyota dealership was also ticking exactly same way when he was talking to me.

Could it be not normal? Maybe... I'm not a Toyota engineer. But lots of trucks have this.

So they replaced transmission on your truck because of these 3-5 tickes?

That noise is found on all of them. It is not coming from the transmission. I believe it to be wastegate rattle. If you go to a lot and crank any truck up and get it to running temp you will hear this noise. Yours could possibly be louder than most hard to tell.

I have a 22 Limited OR/NH now with 23K (bought with 16K)- I really like my truck. Better gas mileage than expected, good power (no turbo lag- I always warm up the engine a couple of minutes post cold start and I find that it improves positive acceleration (I do not care that toyota engineers state you don't have warm up or warm down these turbos- I do it anyway), good suspension. I am not dealing with rattles and wind noise at 30 or 40 mph winds- creates some wind noise but nothing I would not expect. I heard a significant amount of wind noise and rattles from my friend's Ram 2500 (nice truck btw). My apologies that you are experiencing these issues- I know how annoying that must be. I do not consider this 3rd gen truck out of the weeds as of yet. I owned a 2007 SR5 for 16 years with 272K- solid truck. These newer trucks are built cheaper... the metal is lighter and flimsy (my 2007 went through a severe hail storm on the road - not a dent/ that same hail would have melted this 2022 truck), the seals around the doors is less and lighter grade, I could go on. All these trucks are being built that way and asking absurd MSRP's. The most important action we can take as consumers is to stay relentlessly on top of Toyota so that these issues are resolved for all of us as owners. Someone tell me... do you have to spend 125K on a truck to buy something perfect? BTW: FORD is #1 for most recalls for 2023- BMW / Mercedes (3rd and 4th respectively).

    Update to my issue:

Purchased a '24 55 days ago. Been in service for 53 of those days for transmission issue.

I just got message from my service advisor stating the truck's transmission has been replaced and ready for pickup.

I am trying to get a hold of Corporate one last time as to see if they are willing make a decision on a buyback/replacement. I put the request in 41 days ago, but they still have yet to inform me of their decision.

I believe at this point I am going to go to a lawyer as I'm sure Toyota doesn't care now since the truck is "fixed". My wife and I both don't like the idea of a brand new $60K vehicle with only 200 miles on it already having a replaced transmission. Toyota claims the resale value hasn't decreased, but I disagree. If I were to sell this truck right now, advertising it has a replaced transmission, I GUARENTEE people would expect a lower price, or potentially not even purchase it at all to not have to worry about other related issues in the future...

I had a transmission put in mine at 400 miles. I am also concerned about resale value. I'm hoping that the transmission replacement is not recorded on the history.

I can assure you that I would pass on any used vehicle with a replacement transmission at the same price as one without.

I would too most likely unless the price reflected it. If the transmission replacment is reflected on the history or carfax I will ask for dimensished value settlement or buyback.

a buyback for a new transmission?

I get it sucks if they have to out a new one in, but thats hardly worth a buyback situation where you don't come out whole either.

    anyways, good luck
