To be fair, I'm practically a doctor (at least that's what my drunk buddy always tells me).

 

@455h0le_dachshund it's weird. There is a line item for shipping but if you take the subtotal x .75 it matches the total they charged me. So it seems correct.

 

I get that one a lot too, it's a good trait to have. I'd have made a great combat medic, but Dad was adamant I don't continue the family tradition of service. "It ain't for you, son... go do something worthwhile..."

I’ve been in the medical field as an ER nurse and now as a Clinical specialist for a medical device company. But I’m no doctor for sure. Pics of the bandage job, didn’t get any bloody meat pics.

Do we have a progressive vs. digressive shock thread? Does anyone make progressive shocks for our trucks?

A buddy of mine has a 2021 Tacoma. Over the weekend I helped him remove his stock Bilstein 4600s and install a set of used Fox shocks from a TRD Pro model. The improvement in ride quality with the Foxes was absolutely astounding.

Before, the truck rode very similar to mine, a bit firm over small bumps in the road and pretty easy to bottom out on big potholes or bumps. With the new ones, that thing floats. Super smooth over little bumps in the road, but when going over a potholes that made it bottom out before, you could easily tell that the damping increased as the suspension compressed, handling it much much better. We actually tried to get the truck to bottom out, and would not. I was amazed. The thing felt like a trophy truck.

I realize that there are other factors at play, and I realize that the Foxes are much higher quality shocks, but according to the research I've done the biggest factor in the ride quality difference was the fact that the Foxes are progressively tuned, unlike the Bilsteins which are digressive.

Ever since installing my new 4600s, I honestly haven't been super satisfied. They work fine. But it's too easy to bottom them out on potholes if you don't pay attention, and you can feel small bumps like expansion joints or small cracks is a lot more than I think you should. Slow speed bumps, like driving over a curb slowly, feel ultra firm. I feel like progressive shocks would be the move.

Am I thinking about this too much? Is this one of the "it'll never be a new truck" things?

 

I got this also, just noticed it. There's a line "Shipping & Handling" added below the free shipping, and they charged me about 10% of my "subtotal" on that line.

 

The answer is "YES", and it's why you drive a Toyota, not a Dodge/RAM.

That's just crazy that shipping for my items would be $242 before their discount of $200. I call total utter fucking BS. I shipped a 200LB BFF HC rear bumper with tire swing out for like $200

 

I was about to order my door handle through that site. But asked my coworker here at NorthPark if they can see how much it would be for me. He quoted me the exact same price and they had it in stock here (in town)

 

Not so much discussion here in the 1st Gen forum but yes, on the later gen forums, lots of discussions, especially by people that wheel their trucks hard off-road. To narrow your research, KevinK has and loves his Ikons. Papasmurf is a hard and true fan of Kings, and Osidepunker loves his Fox. Reading them trying to convince each other over the years, has been very educating.... and very entertaining.

KevinK's Komodo build truck is his wife's daily, so dampening all the little stuff is a requirement. Those of us that mainly store our trucks between off-road runs, prefer King or Fox, with some ADS but, frankly, problems with ADS seems to have moved most heavy spenders back to the other 3 I mentioned. I drive fast, hit big, and am grateful mine are progressives.

You're on the right track. The valving is important. I think it's why my Icon's are so rough off pavement.

 

supposedly the 6112's are digressive, so fast over speedbumps is smooth, but slow over obstacles holds some force. Havent been crawling yet, but what i feel on high speed atv trails is nice.
