Hi from California! My names Tony and I have a 2017 Platinum crew max 4x4. Figure since I’ll have this truck for a while, might as well join a forum.

I do have an issue with one of my led DRL not working. I bought the truck at a dealership and tried to get it fixed under warranty. Come to find out it has a morimoto conversion kit so they won’t cover it. There are no bent connectors but there is some black gooey stuff in them which I’m guessing is residue from electrical tape. How do I figure out this issue?

You will have to do electrical testing, though the issue could be with the headlights vs wiring.

If it was me I would ditch those aftermarket lights and installed factory TRD LED headlights and you will probably need the @iHacker harness. It is an excellent setup and cost is good.

Is there any way to identify the lights? I thought they were stock. I don’t think the dealership knew the harness wasn’t OEM until he dug into the wiring because the module was loose. So was one of the connectors.

Those headlights look OEM to me, but not for the year of your truck which means they used a harness to get them to work. Are you able to test the non working headlight on the other side? I think the connections are the same so you should be able to unplug the working one and plug it in to the other to test. If it works, it's the wiring. If it doesn't, it's the headlight.

Those do look like OEM lights. The Morimoto conversion they might be talking about may be one of the earlier conversion harnesses that utilized a Morimoto relay. Mine is one of those kits and is still working fine, but they no longer require the relay. There of course is still a chance that the light itself is bad, if not, a new harness is fairly inexpensive.

Agree with the other post above…if DRL works on one lights, then verify if the DRL is broke on the other or if it’s a wiring problem. If your DRLs don’t dim, I would just abandon the current connections and get the iHacker dimming harness. I bought my truck and the prior owner used the headlight revolution harness which doesn’t dim, and iHacker got me the right parts to have the DRL operate like from the factory. Worth the money for sure.

Wires are too short to swap but that’s a great idea. I messaged ihacker for a new harness. I’ll hook it up and see if that fixes it.

Just curious, why would you want the light dimmer?

The DRL are too bright at night and blind other drivers. I was getting flashed a lot to the point I pulled the fuse on the DRLs until I could get the dimming harness installed. All vehicles with LED DRL dim them when the headlights are turned on.
