I don't believe I need a chip key...it started and ran on a normal flat metal key...any ideas on how I should proceed?

Do you mean you lost your spare key? Go to your local dealer and have some made.

    Welcome to the forum.
If you bought it new or where given all the original paperwork and stuff, there is a metal tab that shows your key code.
As well the dealership could look it up as long as you have proof of ownership.

I think it is also on the door lock.

Take your VIN, proof of ownership, and ID to the dealer...they can "cut to VIN" for like $25 or so

You do not need a chipped key. Locksmith can help you out. You can take the lock cylinder off off the tailgate and have them make you a key to avoid them traveling to you

Yup take registration or title to dealer and get key cut from VIN that will be cheapest and easiest. Get two spares and put one away somewhere.

If you have one key and just need another one, I went to Home Depot and had one cut for my 06. It was pretty cheap.

Some double cabs do actually use chipped keys. But we don't know what cab OP has.

Likely, but depends on OP's idea of "bare metal key". Are they saying the blade itself was bare metal? The whole thing waas bare metal? I try to avoid jumping to conclusions on stuff like that.
