So what does he do to get someone impartial to look into? Someone from Toyota technical to take it apart and find the melted bearing if the dealership is saying it is water causing a bent rod?

Seems that he has a big hurdle to get over before they will look at it for what it probably is.

That is my truck & my YT video. Insurance ended up paying for everything and Toyota replaced the engine. I think insurance was able to get the cost down a good amount with Toyota. Honestly have had 0 issues since. The new engine has been great, have drove through the same creek again multiple times. This incident happened around 15,000 miles, currently at 22,000.

Don't you all think Toyota would say the same thing regardless of new warranty or extended warranty?

I got one too, but this just makes me think they'll try to weasel out of any repair....

@Stock1794 Did you show you what happened once they took it apart? If it were me, I would like to see the bent rod.

My thought too, most people will just accept what they are told by the service techs. Then they can tell me that I have a bent rod and that it is my fault for driving it.

I wasn’t around the dealership when it was getting fixed. This was overall a hassle situation. I was nearly 800 miles away from home, broke down near Odessa TX. Stayed in hotel for a few days and was riding my segway around the city and to dealership. Once we got it going w insurance I left Odessa to another town about 3 hours away for work, and I was there till they fixed my truck. So I just went back to pick it up and drove back home at once. But I was never near the dealership when the work started and finished.

Had an early Ford Transit and it had ridiculous water intrusion issues coming off that giant windshield and terrible design by Ford to manage it. Airbox cover leaked and would saturate the filter which would get sucked into engine in worst case scenarios. Issues that you wouldn't think about with normal driving much less parking, so to have to check it after any rain was a bit unreasonable. Numerous documented cases and Ford said "F you" and offered no help for those affected to the early models, though they did redesign the airbox after 3 years, so they knew it was an issue...

Did the insurance check with toyota for the main cause of engine failure? there’s a known problem with crank bearing causing this same exact issue and toyota could’ve gotten away with placing blame on you when it should’ve been covered by them? especially since you’re driving thru same creek with no issues now

i would notify your insurance company about this and i bet they would pursue toyota to reimburse them if that’s the case. I think its total bs what toyota is doing, they got away with lots of money for something they’re responsible for. I bet engine is still there and could be inspected further by insurance company.

Because who will perform the work? I replaced a sunroof rail assembly under warranty, now they replace a broken cup holder and... a steering wheel. I personally don't mind a bunch of new scratches, but if anyone do, they would have a heart attack. Now imagine the same guy doing the engine.
