Hi I'm posting because I couldn't find an answer on the forums already. I have a 2014 Toyota tundra trd with 5.7 gas engine. It has12 bolts on the rear differential I just can't find out if it's 9.5" or 10.5". I'm redoing the bearings

How do you know? Not every 5.7 is a 10.5

All 5.7 trucks came with the 10.5”. The 9.5” came with the smaller 4.6/4.7 V8 and 4.0 V6.

Where did you read this? Everything I've read said it could be either or and every service center I've called has said the same thing

It’s common knowledge at this point. It might be best for you to have the parts department at your Toyota dealer run your vin#. That will tell you. With that said, to reiterate, all 5.7 V8 trucks have the 10.5. 100% certain.

    Pretty things
Sorry to add confusion, but I was under the impression that the 10.5" ring was only for the 4.30 diff which came with the tow package....

Tho to contradict myself, I am certain that the
4.6 was available with tow package, but didn't think any of the 4.6 trucks had the big 10.5"/4.30 ratio.

And I'm pretty sure the 2014 MY was before ALL trucks came with the big diff.

... I'm sure someone will have the definitive answer for you

Well it's not common knowledge lol I've called 4 different Toyota service centers and no one has an answer. It does seem like it is the 10.5 but I can not get a definite yes the truck I have.

They also don’t know the proper fluid for the transfer case on 2014-2021 trucks yet it’s printed in every manual.

That's really sad. I would imagine any dealership should be able to verify exactly what equipment came on your truck via the VIN. Weird

Anyone know if the Toyota owners website has a breakdown/factory build sheet as part of the VIN registration? Maybe could be found there?

My bet and my understanding is the same. 5.7 equipped trucks have the 10.5” ring gear since 2007. Lots of marketing around that when it launched. The 5.7 = 6 speed auto, 10.5” ring gear and 4.3 ratio. The holdover 4.7 retained the 5 speed and had the smaller rear diff.

Look at your VIN card in the door jamb. Google the alphanumeric code underlined in red. That’s your axle code.upload_2024-2-15_8-32-51.jpg
    For example B02A = 4.30 gear ratio, thus 10.5”

Yes it seems very much that it is the 10.5 it's just kinda crazy that there hasn't been a definite answer from anyone lol. I mean it's not normal for them to go bad either but unfortunately the owner before let the seal get bad and most of the fluid leaked out and seems to have ruined the bearings. Also having a difficult time getting the bearing kit regardless no one carries them has to be special ordered. Really the main reason I want to know for sure so I don't order something I can't return.

Call some junkyards around you. Most likely they will know for sure. You should be able to find the center section used. What normally happens is the breather for the axle gets plugged and that blows out the seal. Once the oil goes then the bearings fail. When the bearings fail it usually leads to the ring and pinion gears also failing not long after. If the bearing inside the 'pumpkin' (center section) need to be replaced you will most likely need to set up the pinion depth and backlash. It's a bit more than just pressing on a new bearing.

If you create a Toyota owners account and plug in your vin, there’s a section where it will tell you what your truck came out of the factory with…including rear diff size. https://www.toyota.com/owners/vehicle-specification/
