made my own tie downs for the switchback. Much happier with this solution so far.

Anyone with 6'7" bed and Diamondback cover also have a Toyota bed extender. Curious if you can still fold out the bed extender when you open the back portion of the cover. I assuming it would still work, but wanted to double check given the width of the. center section of the cover.

Im thinking on buying an iKamper and setting it up on racks over my Diamondback HD, but since i won't be loading and unloading the iKamper I'll have to use the truck bed from the back, and that sucks. And I don't want to install drawers because i'll lose half the storage and won't be able to keep luggage in there. What other solutions do you guys see/have for this?

Yeah it's not ideal but I have the plastic Toyota bed liner. So its easier to slide things in and out of the bed. I definitely have to crawl in there to reach items near the cab though. It works for me since I don't daily my rig.

A bed slide is an option. You lose about 4” in height, but way less wasted volume compared to a decked drawer system. You can even do a simple one out of marine grade plywood that sits in the bed. Not as slick as a fabricated one on bearings, but 1/20th the price and only consumes an inch or so of the vertical height.

Yeah that's what I want to avoid. There's a beach nearby and I like the idea of taking off on weekends and just camp there without loading much if I already have the RTT.

Marine grade plywood sounds like a good idea. I don't want to lose those valuable 4". I might add some waxed wood 1"x 2"s below so I can slide the plywood.

I recommend you also add at least a small lip along the back edge and sides so items stay on the slider sheet. I believe a member here on the forums also did a simple tether so it can’t come out but so far, although a bunch of heavy items near the tailgate could cause it to tip, depending on the weight.

Nice, I think I'll do the lip thing and figure something out for the tipping over problem.

First I've got to create myself the problem, I'll get the rack system and ikamper rtt...

    Thanks!

For those that took advantage of the Black Friday sale and wondering how long it would take to ship, mine is finally on the way. Pretty close to the 6-8 week estimate they gave me when I ordered. Now need to offload my current one piece cover.

Thanks for this. Really deciding if I need to install the rail system. Seems like it might lock on better with it. My truck came with the spray in liner BUT…. Doofuses sprayed over all the holes for the rail kit. I’m not messing with that so I’d need to have dealer install . Wondering if it’s really worth the coin to put rails on first.

easy enough to clear out the holes - just use a utility knife to score the hole and a pick to clean it out. The sprayliner will come right out.

the rails aren’t expensive. I think you can still get the rails and hardware for less than $200. I have the HD cover and the tails and it’s solid as a rock. Very happy with mine

2019 crew max. Thanks. Appreciate it. I don’t feel like making holes in my liner that are wrong haha. I’ve heard the cover fits fine without the rails. Maybe I’m wasting my time and money?? I’ll prob call DB and get their opinion. Thanks again.

I made a post in the @.5 Section but was referred to this post.
After reading 34 pages, I see there were some issues with water as well as warping which are also noted in some reviews on the product pages.

Sunday, we went up to the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg and one of the vendors was Diamondback. I've been eyeing these up for a while, and they are offering $400 off their HD and SE covers.
Even with the $400 off the total for the HD comes out a little over $2000 with tax, which is a lot considering I already have the OEM Tri Fold cover.
The OEM cover works well, but it does leak a little and is nowhere near as rugged as the Diamondback cover.

I have some questions and would appreciate some more input on this decision.

Does anyone who owns an SE wished they got the HD?

How water tight are they on the Tundra's with bed caps and spray in bed liner?

Are the shims the best way to reinforce the caps or is there a better way?

I think I like the Smooth better. Has anyone had issues with the finish or found one to better than the other?

The one con of the Diamondback is the center support that does not come off without tools. Has anyone found this to be an issue?

Any idea who makes the OEM cover and how much used ones are selling for?

I live a bout 2 hours away from their shop, and am thinking to let them install it if I do decide to go through with this purchase?

    Any opinions would be welcome.
    Thanks,

The plastic bed rail caps are hollow besides thin supports every few inches, so they will collapse under the pressure of the diamondback cover, especially at the center support where the clamps are. The shims help, some, but I found with mine that the caps also collapsed at the front and rear ends of the bed. Over time flex of the bed and the cover will cause the caps to wear through the paint on the top of the bed sides. You will also have water entry from under the caps, mainly at the front corners.

To stop water entry from under the caps you will need to run a bead of silicone. As for the paint damage, it’s going to happen over time unless you put ppf down or something else.

The smooth finish is great looking. No complaints there. I also always kept a ratchet and socket in my truck in case I needed to remove the center support.

If I did it again I’d get the SE instead of HD. I never hauled anything on top and would lighten up the panels a bit. For reference I had the HD on my 2020 tundra for 2.5 years before selling the truck. It was a good cover, but the tundra bed caps suck.

Damn. Deff don’t want this issue if I go with DB. Where exactly do you caulk? Was thinking of buying extra shims and doing the whole length of the rail caps. Also, mine seem a tiny bit warped from whatever the previous owner had on the truck. Should I buy new rail caps? OEM ones are super pricy. Thanks!

The whole front end of the cap needs caulk to stop the leak. Follow the edge all the way around and a few inches towards the tailgate.

The main thing with the paint rubbing from the caps is to keep the cap edge off the crease in the bed side below it. Thats where most of my paint rubbed. Adding additional shims will definitely help.

I’ll try to find some photos of it from my truck.

I found a diamondback cross bin 13 locally and went and picked it up today. The owner was a very nice older retired lady who has a ‘24 tundra crew cab. She had the diamondback se on her truck with the hd can guard attachment and the front runner rack which is still new in the box. She is potentially trying to sell the whole setup. It is in pristine condition. She is not a member of the forum and I told her I would ask around here if anyone is interested. She is asking $1600 for the se cover with headache rack attachment and will also sell the front runner rack if interested. If anyone is interested pm me and I will give you her contact information. Local to md/dc/va area

The SE was on her previous truck (I believe it was a ‘20). Diamondback told her it would not fit on the ‘24 but it looked like a fit to me and she had had it installed with no issues leaking.

IMG_4331.jpg Visited the Great American Outdoor Show in Harrisburg Pa. For the 2nd time, (was there last Sunday and today was free admission with a previous day admission)
Main reason for going this time was to look at the Diamondback Covers more. Now I’m $2013 lighter and will be visiting their facility in about 5 weeks. Saved $450 plus tax ($477) by taking advantage of show special. Probably won’t need the HD but my wife told me to get it just in case. I had reservations about spending over 2k on a bed cover, but she kept telling me to do it.
I’ll probably be selling my cover that came with the truck from the factory. Can anyone tell me who the manufacturer is of the Toyota trifold covers?

I had the HD cover on my Tacoma for almost 3 years and it was very solid. I got it on the outlet store so paid less than the SE. I did have water intrusion under the bed caps but figured out a solution to prevent using caulk. If you buy some butyl tape off Amazon you can use it to fill in all the holes and gaps and it doesn’t cause any damage to the paint when removing. I got the bed probably 99% waterproof with butyl tape. As for the center support, if I knew I was hauling something big I would remove the cover before leaving the house. Was never an issue for me and only took 5-10 minutes. Never had an issue with the coating and I loaded a ton of crap on top of it. Held up real nice. But at the time I bought mine they only had the diamond plate look so that’s what I had. When I get one for my new tundra it will be the smooth version. But with the lifetime warranty you shouldn’t have to worry about it even if it started to get messed up. Dealt with Diamondback for an issue with a gas strut that bent and they sent one out no questions asked and quickly. They are great covers and really durable. But just be aware that making any cover 100% water proof is very difficult.

Thanks for all the info and help.
I ended up buying the HD in Smooth with the cleats installed by them and it is supposed to be ready March 20th
Would you happen to have a link for the butyl tape or at least know the thickness and width of the tape you used?

Great info. Did you use the tape under the rail caps? I do have silicone I can use. I need to make it as water proof as possible. I know where the sides meet the bulkhead needs some filler for sure. Probably going to buy extra shims and shim the entire underneath of the caps to limit flexing.

I’m surprised I still had these pictures. But as you can see I pulled the bed caps off and then filled in all the gaps I could see along the 90 degree edge then add it to the top as well. It’s a tad bit sticky so I figured when I pushed it the plastic caps back on it was stick to the underside. When with the weight of the cover it helped to keep the sides almost 100% waterproof. Then for the front part of the bed, I got RTV silicon and filled h the gaps in and ran a bead across the front bed rail. But I am not sure the tundra has the front rail piece like the Tacoma so might not have to do that. Like I said, I had it about 99% water proof even around the tailgate as I added the tailgate seal and the Diamondback cover sits over the tailgate which helps. Most rainstorms I never had any water intrusion, only when I was washing the truck with a pressure washer is where I saw some water but not much.
