I asked this of Google's AI interface: Is there a replacement audio unit to install in a 2019 tundra platinum that will maintain the hud functionality?

Here is its answer, is this accurate?

Unfortunately, there are currently no aftermarket audio units available for the 2019 Tundra Platinum that will maintain the HUD functionality. This is because the HUD display in the Tundra is directly linked to the factory head unit and uses proprietary communication protocols that aftermarket manufacturers haven't been able to crack.

However, there are a few options you can consider:

    1. Keep the factory head unit and upgrade other components:

You can upgrade the speakers, amplifier, and subwoofer while keeping the factory head unit. This can significantly improve the sound quality without losing the HUD functionality. Several companies offer speaker and amplifier upgrade kits specifically designed for the 2019 Tundra.

    2. Install an aftermarket head unit and lose the HUD:

If you prioritize features and sound quality over the HUD, you can install an aftermarket head unit. This will give you access to features like Apple CarPlay, Android Auto, and a larger touchscreen display. However, you will lose the HUD functionality. Several reputable brands offer aftermarket head units compatible with the 2019 Tundra, but make sure to check if they retain steering wheel controls and other vehicle-specific features.

    3. Consult a professional car audio installer:

Experienced car audio installers may have more insight into potential workarounds or custom solutions for maintaining the HUD while upgrading the audio system. However, these solutions can be complex and expensive.

Ultimately, the best option for you depends on your individual priorities and budget. If maintaining the HUD is crucial, you may be limited to upgrading the audio components within the factory system. However, if you're open to sacrificing the HUD for improved sound and features, an aftermarket head unit installation can be a great option.

I think he's referring to the Dash Gauge Cluster display.

Partially correct some terms are off. You’re better off asking a question versus having people review what the AI is saying. Check the Audio subforum

So the heads down display in the dash. Got it. The AI is wrong. Newer radios with Idatalink capabilities can retain most of those functions.

Yes the display in the center of dash gauge cluster. Is this not a heads up display? Guess I wasn't specific enough.

the 2022 Tundra has a heads up display. It is projected onto the windshield so that you don’t have to take your eyes off the road. You can keep your head up and not look down at the gauges. The OG HUD was in Fighter planes either on a clear display directly in front of the pilot or on the helmets eye shield.
