Lol I know. Literally the cheapest steps I could find on Amazon. I just got them to give my GF something to step on until I can get something better. My lift made it a bit hard for her since she is pretty much a midget (4'7").

I am kinda leaning toward RCI when I finally do get mine. But a new bumper is closer to the top of my list of upgrades atm.

I was actually looking at these a few days ago. I like the sliders without the top cap for the reasons you've mentioned, not having any rust. Seems they've made a few changes and the top cap might not collect as much moisture?

I was also thinking the top cap would collect dirt/debris more which is why I keep going back to the one without the top cap

FYI..... If you have a dog, you'll want the top plate. A dog's hind leg can slip through the slider while jumping in and could possibly break it.

I’d be happy to if I was near Houston. What material are you using? Looks like aluminum? Same gauge as your cat shield (which I have BTW)? Just curious.

This test bed is in 5052 1/4" Aluminum. We are playing with the idea after we tested it with the bronco. I also have a bunch of .120" 1.75" DOM tubing at the shop for tube style sliders.

Austin isn't that far from Houston, I'd be down if you need a test bed......

Fwiw, the finish on my 2nd gen CBI's is a bit disappointing. Started getting fit up corrosion after 6 months. 18 months out and they'll be ready for a blast and recoat before the end of the year.

Not listed here and unsure if they have an offering, but the 3 year old powder coating from Demello is holding up like new.

Yikes. Having just installed a set I’m not happy to read this. How long ago did you install them on your 2nd gen? Hopefully they’ve improved their powder coating process.

I think you'll be fine with the new design. My guess is they had a bunch of CO top plates rust and they redesigned.

You need the top plate for dogs and little kids and drunk people in the winter. Slip, fall, and smash your face on the door. Lewis needs a top plate, so I don't really care about a little rust.

AH! Great call on little kids! We have a 4 month old. He'll need the top cap for sure - didn't even think about that.

What a beautiful boy Lewis is!

I installed them in AZ Sept 2022. A couple Baja trips, dunes, and fun stuff. But they got washed immediately after coming home from trips. Camped on the beach in TX 2 weekends ago and they're blooming rust all over.

If I was home, I'd pull them to coat now. Working out of town for the rest of the year, I'll just keep an eye on them and hit them with rust reforming paint if necessary.

Man, C4 still makes a good looking slider. I love the details, like how they extended the boxed tubing beyond the rear doors to protect part of the bed.

I can’t tell from that angle but is the portion in front of the kick-out wide enough to prevent door damage if you slide sideways into a tree or rock?
