Hello members. I am on the lookout for a tundra or Tacoma(Tundra more likely) to use for towing under 10K occasionally and carry a vintage 8'cabover Alaskan camper on rare occasion. I recently lost my 97 Cummins which has done yeoman duties for 2 decades including hauling 10K of hay and tractors multiple times/yr. Gas mileage empty of near 20 would be nice(I never drive over 65 on our rural roads))The big cummins would get 22 empty even tho it weighed 7500 lbs but 14-17 with a trailer. The dodge cummins have the best engine and the worst transmission ever put in a pickup as everyone knows. Will the tundra fit my needs?

I have a good friend who restored a vintage 64 Alaskan. Heavy...very heavy. He has an F-250 to handle. A Taco would be laughable and dangerous. A Tunny would lose payload quick...

Ok, you want Tacoma or Tundra size, 3/4 ton payload and towing, and 20mpg. Yeah, don’t we all! The Tundra will be pushing the limits of towing and over the limit with a cabover camper on payload. None of the choices get 20mpg unloaded. Tacoma is a no go all around. You need another 3/4 ton truck sir. Welcome to the forum!
