I purchased a 2024 Tundra and it came with the Dual Step Running Boards in black. The plastic steps mounted on the running boards are scratching extremely easy (cheap plastic). I have had the truck for about 3 months and the scratches are very noticeable. I cant imagine what they will be looking like in a year! I live where it snows and they put sand on the roads. This sand when driving covers the top of the running boards and I even have mud flaps. When someone gets in or out of the truck, the sand that is on this black plastic step continues to scratch the step. I went to the dealership, and they said they couldn't warranty it (not broken, even though they recognize excessive wear and tear); I suggested changing it to a different style like the Toyota Predator style (I even agreed I would pay the difference), and they said that would be difficult to do. I am disappointed in the quality of these running boards, considering there are ones that are less expensive and built much better and designed to not scratch. Any suggestions on how to get this problem resolved? Thanks Note: My previous gen Tundra had OEM running boards that were designed with plastic step pads and they did not scratch.

I'd say go after-market if you feel the need to make a change as I doubt Toyota is going to warranty scratches on a step pad. Sand = sand paper. It's gonna scratch. It's possible that the scratches are very visible for now simply because there haven't been enough yet to create a more even background patina. Got a photo?

I live on a dirt road and have gravel driveway. The after-market Tyger ones I have basically have newer scratches overlaying older scratches and as a result the scratches tend to blend in unless one takes a close look.

I would go to Home Depot or Lowes, some hardware store, get some sand paper & bedliner in a can with paint brush. Sand the to create rough surface, paint them with bed liner and call it a day...
