You can turn it off. I remember looking through the manual to find out where the settings are located but I don't even have it haha. You can even set the brightness which is probably what you'd want to do.

    Here ya go.. 20231218_144417.jpg

I found this thread today doing a search for "BSM red LED." Why? I've already had a jarring experience with my Tundra's BSM; I'm sure much more jarring for the guy I ran off the road.

I've been driving since 1972, and I too learned, from day one, to adjust my mirrors exactly like this:

And, I've learned to accept that others just don't. I can't count how many times I've borrowed, or rented, or sat in the driver's seat of my wife's car, only to find the two outside rear-views adjusted to look down the vehicle's sides and over the trunk.

Still, I've had two (that I know of) experiences where I changed lanes into a vehicle, running them off the road, that I could/did not see. The first was on Interstate 80 climbing Donner Pass out of Reno early one morning; my mirrors were essentially useless with the rising sun directly behind me. BSM wasn't a thing back then, but if it had been, with indicators on the outside mirrors, those would have been useless too in the blinding sun. Anyway, I passed a line of cars and then proceeded to move back over into the right lane. Evidently, some tailgater was drafting me and tried to pass me on my right, even with my turn signal blaring my intentions, as I slowly and cautiously did so. I never saw him in any mirror, and he certainly was not alongside me, as the sound of squealing brakes came from behind me.

The second was just a few months ago: I was headed for Houston from Austin, in my Tundra, and it was early evening and raining. I was traveling a rural and dark section of Hwy 290. Traffic was fairly heavy, and I remember passing an old, junker, four door sedan with his windows down. I chuckled, thinking how wet that driver was getting, and maybe he heard me because a mile later he came flying past me, jumped right in front of me, and slowed down. I passed him again. And then, he passed me again. I noted this time how dim his headlights were, and that they were aimed much too low. I just shook my head. In another few miles I was in front of him again, and he faded into the traffic behind me. Several minutes later I checked my rear-views, activated my blinker, checked my driver's side again, and proceeded to change lanes to pass anther vehicle. Suddenly, there he was again, this time brakes screaming before fish-tailing into the grass median. It was then I noticed my BSM flashing amber, the exact same color as my mirror's turn indicator. Had it been on the whole time and I just didn't notice it, my mind tricking me, melding two adjacent amber lights into only one turn indicator? I can't say for sure, but I think maybe. A few weeks later my wife purchased a new Kia. It has red, bright red, BSM indicators. Since, I've also rode in a friend's Nissan, and it too has red BSM indicators, and those on the interior A column.

So, here I am, searching for ideas. Since it doesn't look hopeful to perform mirror surgery and change out amber LEDs to red, I think I'll seriously consider this (2014-20 sail panels are easy to pop off):
    Thanks for the link!
