Ideas for air compressor mounted in engine bay

Hey all!

Was wondering, has anyone seen or done a air compressor mounted in the engine bay? I had this in my 2010 taco and it was really handy, and didnt have to store it anywhere. Looking for ideas

 

I made a custom mount for myself and @des2mtn
And @alb1k has his mounted under passenger seat

 

Love it! Would you have pics or more info on your mount? Close up of where it's bolted and how, ect

 

I'm not aware of a mass-produced mount, but a few of us have custom mounts over the ABS module on the passengers side.

You could use these spots for feet, or use the three over the ABS module

If you choose to mount it this way and drive your truck hard, the welds that hold the ABS module to the fender sheet metal will likely fail. I'd recommend drilling into the fender and adding a few bolts to reinforce everything.

There's so much vacant space under the truck I'd consider putting it there. Maybe near the spare tire or in some other empty space. There'd be room to add a small air tank there too. FWIW, YMMV.

 

That's a fair point, you'd have to run wiring all the way to the battery though for any stronger compressor

And it would potentially get very dirty

 

On my 4R I mounted a single arb in a similar location but I used tubing to remote the air intake for the compressor.
I was going to do the same on the truck, but we don’t have a lot of firewall real estate down there and not be at the passengers feet. But the filters are removable and washable on the arbs.
A few of us have tank/s under the truck for air, my coupler is in the corner of the bed with the tailgate down. I also have a water separator and a drain valve on the tank with a rupture valve JIC(just in case)

 

ABS was an option on some of the early 1st gen trucks. without that ABS module right there, you got space for days.
