If I install a catch can, can I fit 37’s on my truck?

After inspecting valves on my last 160k mile DI engine and seeing zero carbon build up without a catch can, not worried about it.

Well, you can buuuuuut... Wait, you were talking about a SPECIFIC trailer? I thought you were talking about ANY trailer.. In that case, that would simply depend on whether or not you are driving the BEST gen tundra...

I went back in a HD truck PM a couple hundred pages for a catch can with 600 miles on it two different times:

Good thing you took pics and documented this super ultra rare event for the world to see. Dang, a DI with ZERO carbon build up on the valves at 160K! I'm going with never happened.

Can’t wait to see this. Working on a 150k mile 6.2 (same setup and design) right now and the pistons, combustion chamber side of the valves, and the valves themselves in the intake ports are heavily gunked with carbon.

Don't worry @pop's, you're not alone, I just put one on my Sequoia to see what it will do. I got mine for $22 (actually $10 with my points). After a week, it's already collecting some oil.........to me, that's worth it to keep things cleaner. And for people arguing why they don't come on your vehicle already, Toyota isn't going to spend the the money, they aren't worried about keeping your engine clean.

It’s such a simple solution to add port injectors to keep the valves clean, you know like Toyota did.

that said I really wish Toyota had added DI to the V8. It would be interesting to see what the resultant economy and power improvements would have been. I guess, in all honestly, not enough or they wouldn’t have switched to the turbo 6.

No kidding? That is impressive on that 5.3L. Thanks for letting us know.
Did you do anything special or different than you normally would?

BMW has a spec to remove the intake manifold and walnut shell blast the intake valves every 15k for best performance on their DI motors.

I find it funny when someone gets butthurt how someone else spends their own money. Damn you OP; your $20 Amazon purchase just drove up inflation!

Do catch cans work? Yes they do.
Do they make a longevity difference? Whelp, with the number of members that have over 300k miles on their rigs if a catch can was important, we'd know about it. So no, they probably don't make a noticeable difference in longevity. But to say definitively there is no difference we'd have run side-by-side comparisons. Whoops, sorry...I almost brought science into the internet.

Here's what my JLT catch can has after about 4,000 miles. If $20 on Amazon makes you clutch the pearls, don't go shopping for this model.IMG_3313.jpg

And here's what I've collected over 22,xxx miles. This is in a half-gallon beer growler.IMG_4524.jpg

That's a fun project. I'm surprised there's carbon build up at only 150K! Heh.

JLT's are pricey. More than my J&L which wasn't cheap. I think a few here run the dual canister JLT setup? The main reason I went with the catch can for my direct injection VQ38DD was to extend as far out as possible getting my valves the walnut shell treatment. I'll have to have a noticeable loss in performance if I ever need that done. Yes it's amazing how people freak out how someone else spends their money.
